Clunky HD/screen saver playback (27")

The Arabesque screen saver and 1080p HD (Quicktime) are running choppy in native res.....i've applied all updates. Does anybody else have the same issue? I've googled but can find no mention of it. Any ideas of possible fixes would be very welcome. Cheers😀
 
Memory?

Interesting... maybe it's the amount of graphics memory. Is 256mb enough to drive the 27 inch display at it's native resolution? I've only seen computers running the 16:10 equivalent of 2560 by 1600 use 512mb of memory. Can anyone else with 256mb replicate the problem?
