Not a good deal to me. Use an education discount and for $200 more you can get the new macbook - no refurb.

My first thought was good deal, however Richard makes a good point. If you have an education discount, $899 gets you a really nice, brand new MacBook. If I was replacing my MacBook, I would pick up the new one.

i'd rather save the $200 and have the firewire. refurb or not, it's still under warranty for a year so that's inconsequential.

They were in stock most of the day yesterday. My brother got one, my sister got one and they were still in stock. I think they're good deal. I actually do use Firewire with my Sony PC-1000 camcorder (which I have no plans to replace, even if I did I would replace it with another FW camcorder). I use my iMac for most of my FW needs, but Macbook get's often use of FW too.

If that meets your needs, I think it is an EXCELLENT buy.

Still, it's a $250 difference. Personally, I might be tempted to go with the new macbook though. Tough call, because one could get Applecare for this amount with the refurb.

It might've changed, otherwise you're wrong. I bought my MacBook last year and the education discount saved me $100.

It has changed and now it's only $50. When I got my Alu Macbook last October is about when it changed. The Apple sales guy told me and I just checked now on-line and it's $50

Just bought it!

I recently bought a BlackBook (2.0 CD) on these forums because I wanted a cheap MacBook for hauling around with me everywhere. Unfortunately within a few days after I bought it the battery crapped out completely. So I was faced with buying a new battery or just selling it. I opted to sell it because Apple had just replaced the topcase for the crack issue and it looked brand new. Well on eBay it fetched $725. Awesome. So I figured I can just use the money from the sale and buy this one.

Can't wait till it gets here this one should run wayyy better than the CD BlackBook I had. The fan on that computer would come on really loud for almost anything I did. I don't think that will be a problem on this refurb.

Wow, people really will pay a lot for these blackbooks. Nice catch :)

Because Apple is crazy about the upsell.

I got my MacBook the day after I ordered it! Love it.

It's nice and quiet thanks to the 9400m and I take it with me everywhere now. :D
