Installing windows on my mac

I have an imac running an OX 10.5.8 operating system and want to install windows. Do I need an external device as bootcamp talks about an optical drive and I have no idea what that is?😀

no just do a spotlight search for boot camp assistant, partition your drive, and insert a windows install disc.

Your optical drive is your DVD/CD drive.

Thanks mate. I tried that but my screen then went blank except for a single flashing line in the top right hand corner. I had to turn off the power, eject the windows disc and re-boot.

You might have better luck if you search or post to the Windows on the Mac sub forum located here. Maybe a mod will move this over there for you.

How long did you let the flashing line flash? My windows install does that every time for a few seconds at least.
