factory mic /headphones wont work on voice control

i just bought my gen 3 ipod touch that come with the built in mic in the earphones and i cant get any movement on the sound needle as well as the screen always says no microphone available. i cant record nothing this is brand new

any suggestions?

Have you pushed the headphone plug into the jack all the way until you hear & feel a little click? You can hear so-so thru the earbuds even when not fully plugged in but recording will not work & the dial won't register any movement. The click makes a world of difference. 🙂
