Hello All

My girlfriends mac book died last night.

currently if you switch it on, you get the spinning wheel of doom.

with verbose output i can see that it stops with the message

Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing.

and gets no further. I have tried a few linux live cds that i usually can fall back on if theres an issue but while the cd boots as soon as it starts creating a ram disk it hangs. This lead me to think it maybe a ram issue.

I have since tested each stick of ram by trying to boot into the live cd and run ram disk checker from the live cd. either they are both ok, or both broken as the test doesnt complete with either. Im getting the feeling that this maybe a controller issue, but dont want to sway what people may suggest.

Can anyone offer any advice? She has misplaced her os x dvd but i will get mine from work next week to see if that boots.

Cheers and TIA
