I have an old scanner with a serial port that I need to use. (My regular scanner is broken). However, my mac does not have a port. Is there a serial port to USB or firewire adapter you would recommend? If there is no adapter you know of, how are scanner prices lately?
Thanks!

Scanners, even good scanners, are dirt cheap now. I've had a Canon Lide 30 for about a year and it's great. Fastest scanner I've ever had and it's powered off the USB bus. Plus it's small and light. $80. None of my previous scanners were this good and they all cost over $200.
The reason I say how good and cheap the scanners are these days is because any adaptor you can find (they may actually exist--I'm vaguely remembering something) will cost about as much as a new scanner and the results will be a little sketchy.

Belkin used to sell a USB to serial adaptor.

I've got this (http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA19HS/). I use it for BASIC Stamp programming (sometimes).
