Hello all you iPhone/iPod fans,

Over the last year, my friend Greg Rostami and I have been working on a very powerful mentalism App for the iPhone/iPod Touch called iForce.

Apple approved iForce (codename: Doodle) last week! It is available from the App Store now.
http://www.rostamimagic.com/iforce/

You can find some YouTube video links at the site listed above.

I have been gathering some quotes from some of the forums around the web. There have been some great comments considering it has only been out for a week!

"Every and I mean EVERY iphone/itouch owner should pick this up. It is extremely clever." - sleightofhand1971

"Unbelievable and fantastic app. Brilliant , ingenious and so simple. Bravo !!!!" - Jean-Luc.R.

"Just awesome! I have already created some of my own presets to customize it (using names of people I know), and have many uses with other tricks for this also. Definitely app of the year, and magic app of the century!" - theboywonder

"I got this app and hour ago in work after reading this thread, and I haven't done a stitch since! Amazing and very clever piece of kit, well done Greg" - mamutrance

"Fantastic app.. The layout and user interface is slick and very intuitive. 10/10" - bond19

"This is a great app. The only magic application I am going to use for my iPod. " - jprace

"Bought this yesterday. Hands down the best Iphone magic app.... and the only one where it seems like you did it not the phone" - Joshua Barrett

"This app is the dogs danglies. Absolutly wicked. So many possibilities and completely undetectable. The best of the awesom magic apps out." - JamieD

"It's great. By far the best magic app I have seen so far." - mrgoat

"OMG! I just got this app and it is now my #1 app on my ipod touch (sorry Rising Card)!" - eddierush

I hope you will give it a shot and form your own opinion.

Here is a link that will take you directly to iForce on the App Store (http://iForceOnAppStore.notlong.com).

Looks like another random paint app to me...

Havent downloaded it yet, but there must be more to it than that. They would have a lot of mad buyers, if thats all it was. I also don't think Apple would approve an App if it claimed to be a Magic trick and was just a "doodle" app. I think they would consider it a scam or something. Im interested to see this App, but I will admit Im not sure I buy the hype.

I wouldn't buy it till there is a scientific explanation because i don't believe in magic, ghosts, astrology, gods and anything that is claimed to be "supernatural" work.

I assure you that all of the hype is real... believe it or not. :) iForce is an App that looks like a simple "Doodle" application, but that is only to sell the trick to your spectator(s). Behind this simple app is where the real magic begins. Anyone can perform the trick, and it is fully customizable. It will leave your audience stumped every time. iForce is way to fun to perform.

Check out some actual live performances of the trick at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey4vJcyBLkE

And here is a link to the App Store (http://iForceOnAppStore.notlong.com) page.

There are great threads taking place on all of the magic forums. Here is just one at the Magic Cafe (http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=335539&forum=274).

Hi Pika and todd2000,

This is Greg Rostami . . . The creator of iForce.

I can see why you'd be skeptical about our program. First, as Randy has already pointed out here is a link to MANY amazing reviews of iForce:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=335539&forum=274

In fact if you search for iForce on the Magic Cafe, you'll find other threads of people praising our amazing magic App.

I would like to clarify what our design goals where for iForce . . .

The goal of iForce is very simple. Imagine the ultimate magic notepad. A notepad that can read minds, predict the future, force actions and thoughts, etc.

That notepad is called “Doodle” (In fact when you buy iForce, the “Doodle” icon will appear on your iPhone/Touch). I chose the name “Doodle” because I wanted it to look and feel like a simple drawing App that you would download for free.
http://www.rostamimagic.com/Doodle_Splash_Screen_web.jpg
http://www.rostamimagic.com/hand_in_doodle.png

Everyone that you’ll perform for will only see the “Doodle” side of the App . . . ONLY YOU will know how to access the iForce side.

When we set out to create iForce here are the design goals that we completed:

1. The fact that technology is being used should completely dissolve away in the mind of the spectator. The spectator should always see iForce as a simple drawing program (“Doodle”). After hundreds of performances, I can confidently say we have achieved that goal. I’ve shown iForce to some really smart people and they think I’M the one doing the magic, and the iPhone is just a stupid notepad. When in reality iForce is doing all the work. I’ve shown iForce to guys that work at Apple stores and THEY think that the iPhone has nothing to do with the secret.

2. It’s very easy to learn and perform iForce. In fact when I showed the method to grandma, she was performing one of the effects IMMEDIATELY.

3. The iPhone is completely examinable before, during and after the performance. That means no matter how carefully you examine every aspect of the iPhone, you’ll find nothing more than a simple “Doodle” program.

4. iForce works on ALL iPhones and iPod Touches.

5. Because iForce is a simple drawing program, it goes across all languages . . . whatever you can draw or write on the screen can be your magic.

6. The performer should look like the magician NOT the iPhone. If you’ve been keeping up with the recent releases on the iPhone, you know that it’s the iPhone that looks like the magician . . . ‘nuff said!

7. iForce was designed to be SUPER versatile. You can instantly customize iForce for ANY situation. Here’s an example . . . You walk into a room, and meet several people one of whom is Christy. You tell Christy that you can predict who she’s going to point at in the room by writing their name down on the iPhone. When she points at the person, she looks on the iPhone to see that indeed you had written that person’s name on the screen. This is what I mean by CUSTOMIZABLE.

8. iForce had to be so clever that NO ONE could deduce the method. I’ve shown iForce to a lot of magicians now . . . they have some theories . . . but NO ONE has ever gotten the whole thing figured out. Recently, I had lunch with a famous magician friend of mine (Bob Kohler). I had told him the method over the phone but I had kept one part a secret. I did 3 performances for Bob, on the third performance, he had NO idea how it was done. When I told him, he was shocked by the simplicity of the method.

9. iForce is designed to be FAST. I didn’t want some drawn out trick. It had to be so fast that you can perform it for the girl at the register at the super market with her COMPLETELY baffled by your Jedi mind powers.

10. I didn’t want a trick that was locked to cards or coins or any other “magic” prop. iForce is a mentalist tool that can be used in performances that produce an emotional connection with the audience. Example: Predicting someone’s favorite type of food or day of the week, etc . . .

11. ALL the routines that come with iForce where designed to be performed silently. This immediately crushes the “Voice Recognition” false method and it makes the performance very unique.

12. EVERY action in iForce is motivated . . . and there aren’t too many actions.

13. As long as you have your iPhone/Touch you can perform the most amazing acts of mentalism in a moment’s notice without any additional props.

I hope that answers some of your questions,
Greg Rostami

YEah I bought it because I love magic. The trick is really good but to do anything really good with it you need to have a fairly good memory. Basic tricks are easy though

I dont want to give the trick away, but I'm quite happy with the purchase

I have to say, this app is awesome! I was very skeptical but that is magic. I'm serious that this isn't just a doodle pad. We'll it's part of the whole magic.

Let's just say it's ingenious. Thinks outside the box. I am happy with my purchase! I know I'm sounding like I work for these guys but seriously if I said anymore it's giving away the whole magic about this application.

Let's just say that it's hard not to say more because once you know we'll it's no longer magic.

Either way, awesome awesome awesome!

Thank you so much nutsnbolts,

I'm so glad that you like it. I hope you continue to have lots of fun with iForce.

BTW . . . for you single guys . . . Use iForce to predict a girls favorite type of drink, favorite day of the week, or even astrological sign!!:D

If the girl is at all into astrology then you've got yourself an amazing ice breaker . . . "I knew you where a Libra, I felt it the first second I talked to you!" ;)

PM me if you want more details . . .
Greg Rostami

P.S. nutsnbolts . . . could you please write a short review on the App store? We would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

without purchasing the app and based on the teaser video, it seems like this simple app is simply using the accelerometer to show the answer based on what way you flip the phone that are based on a set of preset answers.

flip up = $100
flip left = $20
flip right = $10
flip down = $5

etc....

Meh, not worth $3

Actually, if you watch the performance video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey4vJcyBLkE ), there are cases where he never flips the iPhone over at all. Definitely worth it. :)

Actually in every cases he flips the phone from it's face-down state, Whether it's before he gets someone to "launch the app" (probably accomplished with a fake home screen) or after he's launched the app.

I think I should rename myself to the Masked app magician.

Sorry buddy there are a couple of holes in your theory,

First, There are 7 bills in the US . . . $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 . . . you only accounted for 4 . . .

So based on your above example if someone brought out a $1 or $50, it wouldn't work.

Second, If you watch the Arrow routine on the performance video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey4vJcyBLkE

The one at 3:41 where I draw an arrow on the screen and force her to stop EXACTLY where I'd drawn the arrow, I NEVER turn the iPhone face down . . . AND there are 360 degrees going around a circle . . . do I MAGICALLY access 360 arrows?!

Meh, you'd make a TERRIBLE Masked app magician. (There would be too many HOLES in your theories . . .)

Greg Rostami

P.S. Since you're calling our App "simple" (without even owning it), could you please send me a link to your "complex" App so I can start a thread admiring how "complex" YOUR app is.

Alright lets put patches in my holes, if I may?

I'll first address the "you've drawn something and flip it over" scenario

The accelerometer has 4 possible options to keep things simple (up, down, left, right). There's also the ability to judge speed (keeping is simple again, fast turn over and slower turn over) so that doubles my initial options from 4 to 8 states.

So now, the problem of more than four dollar values is easily fixed.
$1. $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 ... and one to spare.

Simple eh?

- Now for the second part (the predictive arrow).

I'm still going on my assumption that it's a fake home screen. that can look like a normal screen (since apple doesn't let us run background apps).

From this fake screen I assume you have the ability to make subtle screen gestures since you're the one who touched the screen after she stopped her finger.

Anyway, bravo in using a clever way to make magic from the iphone's technology.

I could purchase the app, but 3 bucks for this is a little steep.

Any more holes in my theory that I can patch up?

Thanks for the compliment . . .

I know 3 bucks is a LOT of money these days . . . ESPECIALLY for people like myself that make a WHOPPING $1.05 on every copy of iForce sold.

I'll make sure on the next demo video that I have THEM flip over the iPhone . . . but then again someone like you is probably gonna say "Wireless assistant".

You know, if you think you know it all, then go elsewhere rather than try to poke holes into an application that actually accomplishes what it was intended to do. Let me guess you have a comment about tip calculators? Whatever, i support this application because it was ingenious on it's development.

Honestly, I can say that it's magic. Let's not get all Lord of the Rings and what not but if you see that there is no point in an application, move on. There is no need for you to ruin it all for everyone.

For those thinking about purchasing it, you will definitely like it. At least I did. I think it has several uses from breaking the ice with someone, a doodle pad and good ol' fun for the kids.

The point in all this is that it genuinely works. Like all magic, it's a simple concept and well, let's just say it's great!

WOW, I leave for a day to go to the :apple: iPhone Tech Talk World Tour in Seattle and this thread got a little heated. :)

Well, you can't please everybody. But having 23 out of 29 ratings be five stars says we must have done something right. I can only assume the two one stars ratings with no reviews are either competitors or MadGoat (or they are one and the same).

Anyway, fun stuff. Thanks all.

No you can't please everybody but most people who responds that are not pleased usually doesn't have any merit in their response that would help anyone thinking about the true and possible use of the application.

Instead, they hastily click on the Post Reply button and start talking out of their A** which is annoying. Everyone should really ask themselves after writing a post, does this help the OP's questions or post? If it does, then you are more than welcome to click on "Submit"

HaHa - this is bang on!

I normally keep my mouth closed when it comes to these kinds of things, but the developer of this app responded in such a douchy tone that I thought this necessary.

Dude, you worked hard on your app, it's neat, but you had to imagine that people will figure this out. Stop being so defensive. It's a magic trick app, people try to figure out magic tricks. Just because your trick was cracked doesn't mean it isn't a neat trick.

If it helps your ego, yes, your trick app is better than my non-existent app. Feel better? But it doesn't change the fact that your trick app was figured out.

Greg Rostami

Hi jdad,

There's a reason why everyone that has bought our App thinks it's "genius". We took a premise in magic/mentalism and we perfected it.

I don't object to people thinking about the method. I object to the condescending tone and the childish display of "See how smart I am . . . I'm gonna tell the World how your app works without even buying it."

So jdad, if iForce was your App, what would you've done in this case? Would you've ignored it with silence?

Greg Rostami

I am not going to argue about how clever your app is.

I was simply commenting on your defensive attack methods. We are your customer and when a customer comments on an app, be it good or bad, you need to respond professionally and with courtesy. I know some comments can sting the ego, but you have to be confident that you have created a solid product that people like.

To answer your question, yes, I would be confident in my product to ignore some smart ass on an internet forum.

You put out a good app. It's a magic app so people are going to try and figure it out. Eventually people WILL figure it out and eventually people are going to gloat about how they "beat" the app. It's just part of the gig.

Be proud you created a neat app, and start working on the next one. You managed to find a niche in a very competitive market. Keep working hard and find your next one.

Good luck.

I took the massive $3 plunge and have been very happy. Messed with my co-workers for a while - that was worth the price of admission alone. My 12-year-old daughter freaked out! Love the look on the face of a child who sees magic up close!

Just tried the new videos and they play fine. They did a good job of visually answering some questions I had.

I may have to get a case for my phone, however. I never realized how slippery they are when trying to pick it up off a desk/table.

Best of luck!

People in other forums are already posting how they use iForce for bar bets and sporting event bets . . . Hmmmm didn't you guys learn anything from Yoda?!

And, here's a new line that I've been using when I perform iForce . . .

So . . . save a tree . . . use iForce ;)

The evolution of iForce continues . . .

YES . . . Apple just approved "Doodle!" This is what you had all asked for, and tonight "Doodle!" is available for purchase from the iTunes App store for 99 cents:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/doodle/id337850431?mt=8&uo=6

You'll probably notice that the software company that we created for "Doodle!" is called "Recreation Software" NOT "Rostami Magic". This was to further hide iForce from any secret-seekers.

The icon and the splash screen for "Doodle" is EXACTLY the same as "iForce". So if someone tries to bust your magic by downloading "Doodle" they will find nothing more then a simple doodling application.

In less then 2 weeks Apple will also approve the latest version of iForce. We have a few surprises coming up in the new iForce. The biggest change is we're going to drop the "(codename: Doodle)" from the title; so the program is simply going to be "iForce" and the iTunes icon will be the now familiar hand with lightning.

I would love to hear your thoughts and insight about this,
Greg Rostami

I bought this app this morning and have been playing with it all day. I have been following this thread for a while trying to decide whether to buy it or not. I love magic, and this really appealed to me, but not knowing how it works does make it a little difficult to take the plunge.

I have to say though, this app is FANTASTIC!!!! So well polished, easy to use, and the effect is brilliant.

It is hard to say too much without giving things away, but this is SOOOO worth the small fee. Endless possibilities of effects that you could create, you only need a bit of imagination. Well worth a purchase :D

Thank you for making such a great app, and the future updates sound spot on!

Here's a new routine that I started playing with yesterday. This was inspired by an idea from lumberjohn (thank you John, it's REALLY good).

Make sure there are 16 or less different items on a table. You demonstrate how certain words in marketing can influence decisions to buy or reject an item.

Start by writing the item for sale using "Doodle". ;)

"From ALL the items on the table I'm gonna try to sell you ONE of them, I've already written down which item it is . . . let me demonstrate how well these marketing words work."

Have the spec pick any 2 items on the table and then try to use marketing words to influence their decision to buy (keep) one of the two. Let's say they pick fork and napkin, you say "soft napkin, sharp fork" . . . no matter which one they pick, you act like that's exactly the one you were trying to "sell" to them. Remind them how THEY picked both items and THEY eliminated one.

You then pick 2 items (make sure BOTH items are NOT in your preset) and once again you try to sell them on one of the two.(It doesn't matter which one they eliminate since both items are NOT in your preset).

Alternate like this back and forth until you narrow down the decision to only 2 items, and they get to buy (keep) whichever one they want. You turn over the iPhone, and take a bow.

may the Force be with you,
Greg Rostami

That's a good one.

Here's one I played with the other day at a fast food joint...

We were sitting at a table and I bet the guy I was with that I could predict what kind of soda the next customer was going to pour for themselves at the self serve fountain. I did it three times in a row without failure. One kid even poured a mixed drink and I had predicted "Suicide". He was floored!

Great times,

I have had this app for several weeks now. You have helped me become an even cooler youth pastor. I have students lining up for me to "read their minds and predict their future." Love it!

My favorite moment was when one of my senior girls came to me. I preformed the money from the wallet/purse trick. Long story short, she pulls out a $2. For the big sell, I told her I kept thinking $5... $5... but then I recall how young ladies spent so much time in front of the mirror... so I realized i was seeing the number backwards or something... and then of course I flip over the reveal... jaw hit the floor.

Thanks again.

2. How do u apply the springboard mode as the effect?

Hope u can answer these noob questions to help me appreciate your app and support your future projects...

p.s. it sucks to be stuck at the easy mode...ahaha

Hi Superash,

Thank you for purchasing iForce.

At the bottom of the iForce settings page you'll see a button for "Videos".

If you haven't already done so, I HIGHLY recommend watching those videos (There are 8 Total) using a Wi-Fi connection.

Those videos will teach you everything you want to know about iForce. If that doesn't answer your questions, then you can always email me at:

Hello friends,

Yesterday, Apple approved iForce version 1.1 . . . We've made almost all of the changes and additions to the program that you'd asked for. Here's a list of what's new in iForce v1.1 :

• Added Save/Load Doodle feature
• Removed (codename: Doodle) from application name
• Changed App Store icon to the iForce hand with lightning
• Added new tip popup to show new users how to find the instruction manual
• Instruction video lengths are now displayed
• Made accessing the secret iForce screens less likely to be stumbled upon
• Simultaneously added new "Doodle" application to the App Store for the secret seekers. "Doodle" is a replica of iForce, minus the magic. Encourage your audience to download and try "Doodle". All they will find is a simple painting app. :)

We realize that there is still an issue with iPhones/iPod Touches App stores displaying the Doodle icon for iForce, we're in contact with Apple to try to resolve this. If someone searched for Doodle on a PC or Mac the icons are different, but on an iDevice they are the same.

Randy and I would love to hear some of your thoughts on the new iForce.

all the best,
Greg Rostami

Hi m477h3w,

In the previous version of iForce, if you swiped your 2 fingers on the screen in ANY direction, the secret screen would come up (Even a pinching gesture). That was bad because when you gave iForce out for examination, people sometimes would accidentally find the secret screens.

In the current version of iForce, ONLY a two finger swipe DOWN will reveal the secret screens. This makes "accessing the secret iForce screens less likely to be stumbled upon".

Hello friends,

First, both Randy and I would like to thank all of you for your support of iForce over the last month. Your generous words and reviews have really inspired us.

Unfortunately, given the secret nature of magic, there's a dark side to what's happened ever since we released iForce.

After 4 days of our release, we noticed an unusually high surge in one star ratings on the App Store. None of those one star ratings had any comments, hence we had no idea why people didn't like our App. We had 3 theories for the one star ratings:

1. People didn't understand iForce
2. Our competition was posting one star ratings
3. The magic community was trying to hide iForce from others

In the last 2 days we now KNOW that almost all of the one star ratings are from reason 3. We started a month ago with a solid 5 star rating, now we're down to 3 stars. Here are a few of the one star ratings:

Amazing!
by holymuffinman on Nov 23, 2009 v1.1
“As long as this app stays on the down low, it will be great. Rate it low so people don’t find out about it.”

Awesom
by stasyschneider on Nov 23, 2009 v1.1
“I love but i dont want everybody to know about it!:)”

Nice
by Ticktack12345 on Nov 23, 2009 v1.1
“This app is awesome. I’m rating it down so word doesn’t get out on it.”

And we suspect that other 1 star ratings are for the same reason as above . . .

Much Too Easy for the Average Spectator to Figure Out
by punkin puss and mushmouse on Nov 1, 2009 v1.0
“Looks kind of cool and I had fun playing around with it, but people are not really fooled and they know the hijinks is app related. Gets boring real fast. I added an extra star to my rating though becuase the developers over-hyping of this app is top notch!”

So . . . what I'm about to say is directed towards the people that have been dishonestly giving us bad ratings.

Giving iForce a one star rating so that it is harder to find will only hurt our ability to produce future fabulous apps like this one. Please, rate the app with an honest rating.

There are almost 7 billion people in the world, and only about 50 million iPhones/iPod Touches. iForce is on a very very small fraction of those devices. The chances of you performing for someone that knows about iForce is 1 in 200,000 . . . trust me, you've got NOTHING to worry about.

We perform iForce more then any other trick. We've NEVER had someone say "I already know about iForce."

We've done SO much to accommodate our users in the magic community:

1. Make iForce affordable to everyone
2. We've put all of our marketing money ONLY in the magic community (we haven't marketed to the general masses)
3. Create Recreation Software with "Doodle" for the secret-seekers
4. Remove all instances of the word "Doodle" in any of the search words for iForce
5. Make sure people don't accidentally stumble onto the secret screens.

So with that said, please help us continue the future development of iForce and our other amazing magic apps. If you haven't done so already, please visit our page on the app store and give us your honest rating.

Sorry buddy there are a couple of holes in your theory,
Meh, you'd make a TERRIBLE Masked app magician. (There would be too many HOLES in your theories . . .)

P.S. Since you're calling our App "simple" (without even owning it), could you please send me a link to your "complex" App so I can start a thread admiring how "complex" YOUR app is.

P.S. I didn't get a link to your app on your previous post . . . could you please post a link to your app so that I can check it out.

I can only assume the two one stars ratings with no reviews are either competitors or MadGoat (or they are one and the same).

Grow up, seriously. It's pretty obvious MadGoat isn't a competitor, but some guy who figured out your gig (you know, the entire point of magic) and called you on it. Your responses to him have not only been rude, but they've been immature and unprofessional. I don't know what you have to gain from being ultra-defensive, but you've assured yourself I won't be buying your app and will definitely not be recommending it to any of my friends, despite the fact that it's pretty cool.

Maybe you'll conduct yourself more professionally next time.

Those are just a few samples of the many many quotes across the internet where Randy and I are trying to help our customers with iForce.

I'm sorry if you feel that we have not "conducted ourselves more professionally". I'm also sorry that I've perhaps gotten too emotional than I should have.

All of our customers that we've helped over the last month would say that we've been very prompt and professional.

Greg,

First and foremost, thank you for creating such a wonderful and entertaining app.

I have been following this thread since it started. After reading a few of the new posts, moments ago, I figured, "What the heck!". I purchased the app some 15 minutes ago.

Love it!!!! I spent a minute or two reading the instructions and tried the first trick. LOL . . . I cannot wait to read more and see what else this app can do. It's fantastic!

I am waiting for my wife to get home from work. She is going to love this app. However, it's going to be my secret for a bit. :D

This app is going to afford me a ton of laughs when I use this with my kids, nieces, and nephews.

Again . . . Thank you! Keep up the stellar work.

Hi - what a heavy discussion so far!
I read about the iForce App and had bought it within 10 minutes of syncing my iPod touch - but I can't find out anywhere how it works!!! As far as I can see I've just bought myself a Doodle pad - that's what the trickEE is meant to think - not the trickER (ie ME!)

I don't expect anyone to post on here, or even via PM how this awesome looking App works, but could someone please tell me how I can find out as a genuine purchaser!

I'm desperate to show my kids that their mum is magic!!!

Thank you - awaiting your HEEEEEEEELLLLP!

Hi mamaboogs,

Sorry you are having trouble with iForce. First of all, make sure you purchased iForce and not the decoy app called Doodle. When you launch iForce it should display instructions on what to do (and it will continue to do so until you have shown it that you know how). If you are still having trouble, Greg can give you direct support by emailing him at greg@rostamimagic.com.

Thanks,

Hi Greg

The one UK AppStore review says you can't use this in Europe as it makes a rather expensive phone call to L.A.?

If so how do you use it in the UK?

Thanks

Greg Rostami
Jan 3, 2011, 02:32 PM
Hi Fedorov,

Currently, iPredict makes a 30 second phone call to the US every time you perform it.

The app gives you the option to customize this number to whatever you want, but you would have to acquire these numbers (which is a difficult process).

If the sales of iPredict pick up in the US, then we will invest the money to acquire the numbers for the UK.

thanks for your question,
