Why the hate on morrigan??
She has her moments.
So did she not solicit you to have sex with her so that you she may have control over a demon child? Then it turns out that's her plan all along, and when/if you say no, she then says ok well hook me up with Alastair? I mean bitch. If you disagree she fecks off and leaves you. When you have spent 20+ hours building up her abilities it's a kick in the teeth. Even if you have had a romantic entanglement with Zevron she still trys to pursuade you to penetrate her?

No problem Huntn. :)
That would be evil of Bioware, if they didn't put in an out. I guess the only way to know for sure, would be to play your game along side one that has a clear side picked. I would think they'd test for your outcome, since the game allows for it.
Anyways, did that script work?
MacRumorUser,
Ha!
My friend said pretty much the exact same thing about her and he mentioned that he wishes he had taken her items prior to that event, which is exactly what I did to Zevran when he betrayed me. :D
Morrigan was too useful for me, so I did what she asked.

I know. That's why I'm now struggling with the final battles. I had come to rely on a combination of Alastair, Morrigan & Wynee and formulated decent strategy of play. Now i'm struggling with just Alastair, Wynne & Zevron:o
Edit::
Well it's over. The game on my PS3 at least is complete (for the most part). Not sure how the expansion pack (awakenings) will work now that I'm on the other side ;)
Dragon Age has now been added to the special list of games that I actually bothered finishing (which seeing how many games I buy is quite a rare thing for me to do).
Will play it differently on my mac now though just so I can have a different ending.

I did not quote the whole thing, but what a great touch in a game! Lol! Morrigan, what a piece of work... ;)

>>>I didn't want my character to die, so I persuaded Alastair to do the deed. If anything, I think that the demon spawn they created will either be an ally or a foe that I'll need to work with or kill in a future expansion pack. :)
I didn't do the polygon nasty with anyone on my first game, but will do so on my current playthrough as a city elf rogue. But first I must finish Mass Effect 2, which has its moments. :]

but her evil manipulative ways is exactly why I like her. She, for me, epitomises the entire notion of "do what it takes" and none of the crap of "aww man gotta be careful not to step on people's toes".
This is of course a personal preference, though it is a kick in teeth but how is it any different when the other companions do it?
For example:
When Leliana goes rogue after you destroy the Ashes, what if I don't like Andraste and the whole chantry? Or Shale, what if I like enslaving hundreds for a robot army? It's the same, at least with Morrigan the choice is "live + have sex with her" or "die and not"

What I don't get is that on my second play through I managed to "bed" Morrigan many times before the final act... she was asking for it (to the displeasure of Alastair) and seemed "in to my character". I really thought that then choosing to chase after her would result in a potential meet up. I find it lame for her to be so 1 dimensional in her final role. Seems like if you had her favor up to a certain level and had copulated before the final decision then her bailing might be a bit harder? I mean some of the other characters quoted in the thread have potentials to turn them around... like being able to condition Leilana...
If you're able to take over characters in the next installment I have one play through with only 3 (4 if you count the dog) extra teammates :) . Really easy to piss everyone off it seems LOL.

I didn't even think about that.
It would only makes sense, that if you had already slept with Morrigan, that the end part would have been a given, so no question about weather or not to do it, just a btw, we're having a demon baby if you kill the bad guy. :o

Exactly...with all the normal story telling success of Bioware I expected more. To me either have her completely aloof till the end which would make sense with the direction of her character or have a prior relationship factor in...who knows, maybe it could in the sequel :D .
What's with them and annoying M name chicks anyways. Between her and Miranda... :D

So far what I noticed about Morrigan is that she was completely aloof and unfriendly until we got to her mother's quest. Then she became miss Chatty Cathy... :) Now I'm playing a girl, which does not seem to stand in the way of romance, but I'm really wondering how it will effect my shot of having a demon child with Morrigan. lol! :p
JackAxe
Mar 4, 2010, 06:53 PM
I didn't sleep with anyone, so for me, Morrigan asking at the end fit my story. :D
I gave Morrigan gifs, so she became friendly early on. I liked hearing her bicker back and forth with Alistair and Leliana, or who ever else I added to my party.
Huntn, it won't be your character that she wants to do the deed with. :p

I've given Morrigan gifts all along, not for romantic reasons, but for someone who I could count on. Nothing broke the ice with her until her Mom's quest came up.

Just been reading how awakenings handles a character who has made the 'ultimate sacrafice' in origins. Needless to say I don't think I'll be buying the expansion.
Do not fancy having to start with an orleain generic character.
JackAxe
Mar 7, 2010, 04:57 AM
I cheated Huntn, because the book told me which gifts to give her. :D
What's "orleain" MRU? :o
So, does this mean that we won't be able to pull over our characters and that they're going to give us a pre-made character to play with? Or do we create a new one for this expansion?
MacRumorUser
Mar 7, 2010, 04:35 PM
I probably spelt it wrong. But that French place where Leliana comes from.
You can pull a dead character in, but it basically undoes your ultimate sacrafice reward, so your damned if you do and damned if you don't.
The new character has a preset backstory that we can not change and if you don't pull in an old character then choices you made are rendered futile as it will follow a set path (Alastair dead not king etc...).
Really does sound like Awakenings was a big after thought.
You think they could have brought in some great ressurection story with a small Mage quest at start leading to your original character being brought back from the dead/fade. Seems that simple little idea was too much for the brainstorming sessions at Bioware to muster and do we are left with pretty ****** choices for starting out in awakenings.
I won't buy it.

Mar 7, 2010, 10:23 PM
My character didn't die thanks to Morrigan, so I'm set. :D

LOL! :D Well, I didn't rely on the book until much later and really only for things like gifts, since I had sold many the ones I had picked up by that time, so had to track them down again.
I had finished up the main quests, so wanted to make all of my camp people happy, so completed their requests. But, for the majority of the game, it was just lots of trial and error, with lots of saves and lots of going elsewhere when I got stuck. :)
Oh, I just bought a book for Zelda:Spirit Tracks, a hard covered edition. I haven't even played the game yet, I just like the smell of freshly printed paper. :o

Ok, guys I ran the debug script regarding being stuck in Orzammar and it worked! It gives you a menu to reset or move the quest forward. I updated the Dragon Age: Origins Quick and Dirty Guide (http://guides.macrumors.com/Dragon_Age:_Origins_Q%26D) to reflect this info and got it posted. If it is too messy, give a shout. Thanks.
If you don't want to mess with the Q&D here is the link (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Stuck_in_Orzammar) for being stuck in Orzammar and a link (http://www.cheatcc.com/pc/dragonageoriginscheatscodes.html) for enabling the console and lots of cheat codes. I find it interesting in that there is a "debug" code for this part (Orzammar) of the game. It was created by the developer so I think it acknowledges if you play both sides against the middle, you can end up in a dead end. Several players have reported doing exactly this and they are still able to move forward, but if you pick the wrong dialog choices you could get stuck.
To repeat a sad story: I helped Bhelen (represented by Vartag inside the Assembly building, Diamond Quarter) by delivering some incriminating evidence to a prominent dwarf in the Deep Roads convincing him to change his families vote from Harrowmont to Bhelen. This pisses off Harrowmont's people. I don't remember who exactly gave me that quest if it was Vartag or someone else.
For Harrowmont, (represented by Dulin Forender in the Tavern) I represented him in the Proving Grounds. This is going to alienate Bhelen's people. Afterwards, Dulin was willing to allow me to spy on Bhelen, but when I went to talk to Vartag, he told me to pound sand. So there was no way I could gather info to report back to Dulin with any info. Without the debug code, very stuck at this point.

There's actually a debug script (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Console) for all areas of the game that all do the same thing, but for that area of course. :)
I'm glad you can move forward now. I was thinking if anything, you'd end up fighting the end battle without the dwarfs. :o There was an empty slot when I finished, which I'm pretty sure was allocated for one particular not so soft group.
pcypert
Mar 9, 2010, 08:26 PM
Yeah in the final battle I think I only used 1 or 2 groups tops (thanks to a mastery of the giant crossbow, dragon barely got a chance to move, just used one group of people to hold off the mid-point spawns).... I played both sides, but maybe not quite as far as you did? I flirted with playing both sides, but ended up on that playthrough going with the nicer folks and not giving others info. Second playthrough did the same but then went all the way for the bad guys... no glitches though. I mean apart from the all the random ones I experienced.
Damn buggy game and bioware really needs to sort its save game situation. I have the same problem in ME2 with it loading random saves instead of the last one and losing auto saves in the process...

Don't you have to get the Dwarves onboard before you can move on with the main quest? Thanks for the debug scripts link. I'll add that to the Q&D.
The end battle, should you be using primarily fighters, primarily mages, or a mix? For those of you who have finished the final battle, what do you reccommend? Thanks!
The mages in this game seem to me to be the strongest mages I've ever had the fun of playing in a RPG.

No problem. :)
I'm not sure, but during the last battle, there are 5 slots, one for each race, and one of mine was empty, so I'm wondering if you need all races? I'll dig some.
For the end party, use a mix, but make sure the party you leave behind can handle itself, because you'll actually switch back to them during the final push.
Having an archer for my main character really helped with the end boss, because he likes to jump around. Also being able to heal others was really important. Irving eventually helps out and I kept him healed while he did tons of damage to the Archdemon, which kept it off my party. Then I just focused on the darkspawn that popped up while my arrow-of-slaying recharged, which I'd hit the Archdemon with.

Didn't know there was a mastery of giant crossbow. I killed a reaper(one of those things hiding in the glass vials) in the Deep Roads with one. I had him chase me over from where I found him, and then froze him right in front of it and luckily he stayed. :)
ME2 has crashed a few times on my PC, where as the first has never crashed and that was on my current comp and previous one. It happens every other time I play and when accessing the star-map of all places, so it doesn't really bother me.(But this makes it the buggiest game I've played in years.) Dragon Age on the other hand ran without a hitch.

I just finished the game (PS3 version) on Normal difficulty with a Dalish Elf Warrior. I went mostly STR and DEX when I was building him and got all the dual weapon and Berzerker talents/spells. The main party I traveled with was Alistair, Morrigan and Wynne. It took my 3-4 tries to kill the Archdemon because I could only use the "giant crossbow" a few times before it locked up.
In big battles like that, I tend to fight with my main character until he really starts to get pummeled (doesn't happen often), then I switch to Wynne and just heal (and resurrect Alistair and Morrigan, who die easily) every so often. Worked pretty well.

You all may remember my Ozammar woes, boxing myself into a corner not being able to move forward with quests. Well after I ran the debug script I got the quest to kill Jarvia and I went back into that the "slum" room to fight the same guys I fought previously and this time I got a key to the door. The first time I fought them I don't remember getting a key, in fact I thought I killed them. This time they surrendered and through dialog I got the key. Perplexing. Now I'm working through Jarvia's hideout and having fun again. :)

I'll admit that I bought Dragon Age: Origins for MAC, and then saw a friend playing it on a PC. I was so disappointed with the way it looks on the Mac, that I bought a Copy for the PC via Vale's Steam Client. I Play the PC copy under BootCamp and it looks so much more amazing than the copy that I purchased for the Mac. It plays better too, even on my iMac i7 under OS X Dragon age had the a small amount of lag in some areas, notably when there was a lot of fire/flames in game. It's like a whole new game when playing it under BootCamp with Windows 7 on the same Machine.
Great game.

Hmmm ... I actually compared my Steam version (day of release for me) versus my Mac version both on my top end unibody Macbook Pro (OS X Snow Leopard, Win XP bootcamp), and saw only minor performance degradation with the same 'high' settings.
My biggest disappointments with the Mac version are:
- No post-purchase DLC
- No patches
- No Return to Ostagar
- No Awakenings
- No support
... and probably not coming over on Steam for Mac, either ...

What happens in the Circle Tower when the sloth demon puts everyone to sleep and you have to fight through the Fade to wake everyone up? Dwarves can't go into the Fade, so I'm just wondering how they get around that.

I'm almost positive that it's due to the fact that OpenGL isn't Fully Supported under Mac OS X, they haven't written all the support in for it yet. They are very close with Snow Leopard 10.6.3 if not finishing up full support for open GL. As far as I know it's only semi/mostly supporting Open GL 3 but the newest version of OpenGL is 4.
I am almost positive that it looks better on Windows because of Direct X Support. Direct X is fully integrated into Windows. I use windows 7 as well which utilizes a newer version of Direct X than XP can handle. So I think that plays into it a little. It could be that the game isn't actually played natively on the Mac either. TransGaming ported it to the Mac....so that has some limitations as well.

I found this (http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/The_Fade:_Lost_in_Dreams) at Dragonage Wiki:
Even when the Warden is a dwarf, he can enter the realm of spirits (the called Fade). This seems to contradict the game's Codex which states that this race has no connection to the Fade. However, it is likely the Sloth Demon can force dwarves to enter the Fade even if they cannot usually do so.

I haven't played the XBox or PC versions, but I really, really like the way the PS3 version works. While it would be nice to have a few more hotkeys/buttons for spells/abilities when you get to higher levels, the way the controller is laid out and the customizable...ness of the controls makes gameplay easy to learn.

Well, what exactly did you have against MMOs?- I forget. If it's not the subscription maybe it's the fact that you'll always be left behind by the uber players who live on the game 24/7? My interest in MMOs has always been to experience the game, experience the world, not to be number one or I would have been a miserable failure. My interest in Wow was enjoying a virtual world with real people running around in it and to enjoy small party ops now and then while tossing magic all over!! WoW met that expectation wonderfully and it is an amazing place to explore. I loved practically every zone I stepped into. I must be careful or I'll blather on about it...

I was just frustrated with some of the ... few that are pretty hateful and B&W with their opinions on this site. :]
Nothing agains MMOs, I'm just afraid of devoting the time they require, mainly because I'd probably get sucked into it and there are soooooo many things I'd like to do. :O I like the idea of what they represent, but for the most part I prefer single player games for a personal experience, because I know they have a set end-goal and short multiplayer games for the fun of playing with others -- so games like L4D or Dota as an example.
Anyways, I'm mainly worried I'd never get anything done if I joined WoW or one of these other MMOs. :o My friend's family started playing WoW at release, he stopped after a year, but his 3 older brothers have not! We used to all play Warcraft 3 mods, now it's just them playing WoW all the freaking time.
Sorry, I'm rambling.
OK, about this game, which sucked me in, I finally installed Awakening and upgraded DA:O to 1.03. I'm hoping to get back into the groove after I finish a project this month.

That sounds like an honest assessment. When in a stand alone solo game you go at your own pace. With a MMO, the current of 1000 other people progressing in the game world and leaving you somewhat behind could be the large sucking drain that pulls you down, or maybe not. Alot depends on the game. As I know I've mentioned many times, Planetside was the perfect MMO in this regard, you could play when you wanted and were never left behind.

Another thing, which I think I've ramble about before, is that I view MMOs like amusement parks, where as I'm just another person standing in-line to do the same task so many have done before me. It's fun to be part of, but being there really doesn't change anything.
I like games where as I have an effect on the outcome, which is another reason I like single player games. And yeah, going at my own pace is definitely a major factor of why I prefer them overall.
And one last thought about MMOs. There are tons of other people, which is awesome, but nobody is really a character in the game, so talking to a stranger who's one of those cow-people in WoW as an example, would be like talking to someone in a forum.
Anyways, just rambles. :o

All valid points if they bug you. Most MMOs are static. One of my fantasies is a dynamic world. However as I say this I realize that in a dynamic MMO, most likely it would be someone other than me making the big impact on the world. Regarding your last point, that is why you'd join a Role Playing Server... ;)

Yeah, that would be my case also, someone else would be taking the glory if these worlds truly were dynamic and I were part of it. :)
On the role playing part, I made the mistake of joining a Pirate forum once. Some people take these things really really realllly serious. I used to role play with friends when I was younger -- yes I'm a nerd -- anyways, I was never good at it. I like games like Dragon Age, because I don't have to talk, just read and respond based on choices. I'm in my own world. :o
But those role playing servers sound kind of creepy. :D

It's just staying in character. When I played a female in WoW and someone helped me, I'd say something like "thank you kind sir". Usually staying in character. Of course then the guy paid me to strip down to my undies (as a night elf, the hottest female character in the game) and dance in a fountain with him... I might have been role playing a loose woman, except that was as far as it could go. Usually I can tell when someone gets serous, as far as they think they might be playing with a real girl. They ask and I pop their bubble and apologize, have never misled anyone. ;)

So you were playing World of Whorecraft. :p *I KID* :D
Yep, misleading could lead to awkwardness. :o
Speaking of role playing, I had no idea that there were books released for Dragon Age, including a game masters book.

One time I played GTA4 online with a female avatar, just for fun, just free-roaming. Some dude started flirting with me and kept calling me "honey" over the messaging system. (wasn't using a headset) Things got a little awkward when I told him I'm actually a 30 year old guy.

Imagine how much different online worlds would be if people were forced to use avatars that looked like just like them. Probably wouldn't be enough space to fit more than three or four chubby mages on the screen at the same time.

LOL! That would certainly make things interesting. :)
One of my friends is overweight and somewhat short and he always plays a fat dwarf if the option is available.

My MPB runs the game just fine however I'm running on Vista/Bootcamp. See specs in my signature. I don't know if mods are available for the console version of the game like it is for the PC version. There is a rumor that DAUpdater is not included in the Mac version of the game. If you've not looked at it all ready there is a blurb on manually installing mods in the MacRumors DAO Quick and Dirty Guide (35zOne53) which I'd expect you'd have to do on the Mac version of the game.

Hey guys,
Just wondering does anyone know at what graphics level Dragon Age:Origins will run on My 13' MBP 2.4 Ghz Nvidia Geforce 320m, 4GB RAM? And does anybody know whether or not there is any difference to the Mac version and the Windows Version of the game? Thanks :apple:

DAO runs on medium settings on my hardware. The Windows version has a utility for installing mods. I believe mods on the Mac version can be manually installed. See the MacRumors DAO guide (http://guides.macrumors.com/Dragon_Age:_Origins_Quick_and_Dirty) for some info on mods, but might be out of date.

I finalllllly finished Dragon Age:Origins last night and will be starting to play Awakenings tomorrow. Once I've beaten that, do you guys think it's worth playing through again to do opposite quest paths? Choose elves over werewolves that kind of thing?

So, I've considered purchasing the Mac version. I have a 2.26ghz Mac Mini with the 9400m and 4gb of RAM. Can I even expect playable frame rates with settings turned down? I have Bioshock, and I was able to have it relatively playable while still retaining decent detail settings. Can I do so with DA?

From what I have read, so long as you have a decent Dual Core Mac it should work fine.
We know that the PC version performs better than the Mac - which it inherently must because the Mac version has a Cider wrapper. The question becomes - which has a greater penalty - Cider or Parallels? Previously it was Parallels by a *lot* but now ... not so clear.

^I'm still deciding whether to play on bootcamp or give it a try on parallels first. I think I will go with current parallels v5 for now and see how that goes. I don't really use windows on my mac so not sure if it's good idea to upgrade to v6 just for this game. bit off-topic but tbh i found v4 to be much better. I think elder scrolls oblivion was much better on v4 than v5.
