Traffic increased dramatically today for unclear reasons.

One person had mentioned that the site was mentioned on TechTV last night... so perhaps it was again on TechTV today.

Regardless, I apologize for the downtime today. The server just wasn't prepared for it. As a result, we had to shut down the forums for a while, and have now limited the forums to registered users only.

Geez. That's almost as many users as arn has posts. :)

wow, that's totall nuts - who'd a thought, non-expo overload.

yep, get more memory at least for the server, if the site gets this popular, you're going to need to upgrade.

maybe a little mention that the site needs a new server thread - donations accepted - i'd give $10.....

and now that the forums are only available to members, you're only going to increase membership - remember we got more than 1500 because of the lockdown on MWNY last week.

the site got 600+ members since the server fart alone - macrumors is off and running....

way to go arn!:D

yesterday while browsing the forums I got kicked out.

Arn, am I a registered user?
'cause during MW forums were only for registered users and I could not get on.

all the forums were shut down for an hour or two, so it might not have been a mistake, it might have been for everybody.

I couldn't get on during MW either, I know I don't have the most posts around here, but I'm around a lot and I though a few hundred would make me a registered user?;)

Oh, well, probably just overload.

"Registered" simply means you have a username/login.

So, if you are reading this, you are registered. :)

Hey Arn, have another question.

I have cookies enabled both at work and at home, and today. after already posted couple of times I needed to log back in. I thought that that freaking peecee was well... freaking.
But when I got home my trusted mac also requested to log in again.
Why was that? Did you reset something? Cleared out a couple non-active-users or so?

the entire macworld NY streaming event was hosted off 4 xserves. think of the traffic arn could maintain with a rack... just one might be enough

Only 4 Xserves? That might explain why I couldn't connect to either of the keynote streams. :)
