Can anyone recommend a cheap (~£50 / ~$60) tablet that works reliably with OS X? I want to be able to do simple line illustrations, along the lines of those you see at XKCD.com (http://imgs.xkcd.com/blag/treadmill_diagram.png)

Nothing complex, but I (hope) it would be much quicker to draw these sketches than my current method of doing more 'precise' illustrations in Inkscape.

What software should I use to get good results - Inkscape? I don't want to pay for Adobe CS*. Ideally I would need to produce print-quality output.

Thanks.

Your illustration requirements are very elaborate. The cheapest Wacom Bamboo should suffice. It's currently on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Technology-CTL460-Bamboo-Tablet/dp/B002OOWC3I/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257696283&sr=8-7) for about $59.

There's also a refurbished Bamboo Fun Tablet (http://www.amazon.com/CTE450K-Graphics-Software-Factory-Refurbished/dp/B002QJASB4/ref=pd_cp_e_2) (never heard of it) for $45.

Software comes with the tablet.

Bamboo fun is the same tablet as the normal bamboo with the addition of a mouse and a copy of Photoshop Express (one generation older than current). I have never had any issues in os x with it and would recommend it for your application.
