So every month I set off to find new and eargasmic music. I have a very wide range of taste from indie/rock, to hip hop, to alternative rock, to country!(love taylor swift) haha. But I lean more towards indie music as I like finding bands out there that aren't mainstream or juist starting off. I would like to get some band suggestions from you guys, here is a list of bands that I like, maybe it can help:

Radiohead(not indie but hell its Radiohead)
Incubus(same as above)
Phoenix
Pinback
Kings of Convenience
The Fray(lol)
The Temper Trap
Mumm Ra
Airborne Toxic Event
Deathcab for Cutie

thats just a few of my kind of bands, but lets start!

Here are a few indies that I think you'll like:
*Grizzly Bear
*Porcupine Tree (maybe not indie, but I just heard of them last week, and they're a lot like Radiohead)
*Neutral Milk Hotel
*Sepiamusic (you can download free samples at their Ilike page)
*Apples in Stereo
*Dinosaur Jr.
*Care Bears On Fire (look them up. They're actual music is pretty dumb, but I got it just for the name :p)

Hope that helps!

If you like Radiohead, you really should check out Grizzly Bear. It's equally hard to put them in a box. Check out the recently released video of "Ready, Able" on youtube.

I'm a big indie guy too. Just listen to indie pop rocks on soma fm, killer station. You can even use radiolover to record the streams and it will separate the tracks for you. If I like a song I buy the album, I fully support the artists.

Indie Rock
--------
An Horse (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=277904108) - sounds like Tegan & Sara

All Get Out (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=280227264) - southern indie rock, similar to Manchester Orchestra

David Bazan (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=160320711) - lead singer for now defunct Pedro the Lion

--------
Indie Rap
--------

P.O.S. (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=207609510) - This guy is a genre-buster. There's nothing out there like what he is doing. If you ignore everything else on this list, at least check out his newest album "Never Better".

Heiruspecs (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=21480246) - Live instrumentation. Think The Roots but without all the anger.

Wow, the words good and indie in the same sentence?

Besides the last time good music roamed the earth was but years ago. Sorry but you're one of the last to realize it's dead, stop searching for the last dodo already.

Ida Maria (Really grooving stuff)
Shivaree (AMAZING)
MGMT (More elctro-indie type of sound. Good Stuff)
The Blow (Pretty catchy stuff. Very Shins-y)
Bat for Lashes (Has some deranged lyrics and tunes, but hauntingly good!)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Nuff Said)
The Strokes (Nuff said)
Beautiful Small MAchines (the chick who did the song "David Duchuvony" is vox for this band)

I dig all of the above and think you would too. I'm more of a fan of Radiohead's Pablo Honey and The Bends than anything after, not that it's bad, just like those two the best.

I don't know the others, but Godspeed, indie? :/

And to the guy who said Neutral Milk Hotel - you win thread.

I've not heard them, but apparently Wilco do some very good indie.

The problem with "indie" is that its not really a defined genre but when i listen to other accepted indie bands like Broken Social Scene i find that Godspeed blends in just fine so i consider them indie enough.

muses earlier stuff was alot better than their later stuff.. although their later stuff is more electro which is up my street, i preferred the rocking piano stuff :-) They still count as indie in my book though, although alternative in some songs i guess

Radiohead.. my man, you hit nail on the head :-)

Im liking friendly fires at the mo, U.K band i think, on itunes,
also florence and the machine same as before.
The White lies same again
LCD Soundsystem
Chk Chk Chk or otherwise known as !!! (not particularly indie, but they are definitely good!! lol)
The Rapture (same kinda thing as LCD Soundsytem was produced by the lead singer of said band)
Some alternative punk which is indie i guess is Say Anything they had a song on Scrubs.
also i enjoy At the drive in (very odd, fast indie) lol!
Air are kinda electronica indie.
The big pink are getting big here in the UK
Also have a listen to bloc party (often compared to the artic monkeys, and the kooks-whom i dislike with a passion, bloc party are alot better though!)
Also you could try Kasabian-although they have gone a bit mainstream recently..
Chikinki-yet another UK band, big in europe reportedly.
The Cooper Temple Clause- now disbanded, but their songs still stick it as brilliant, and loooud!!
Death from above- although their songs and lyrics are strange to say the least-mainly about girls n.. stuff. the tunes behind are well good!!
band i only heard about recently are The Deer Tracks, also in a similar kinda vein are School of Seven Bells,
Also cant believe i forgot about these guys until now, SIGUR ROS!! brilliant! like post rock indie, along with them mogwai.. the later stuff at least.. Some of the earlier stuff is verging musiqué concreté.
The postal service-brilliant, catchy melodic synth electro pop indie stuff.. very nice to listen to, after a heavy night and just chill to, wakes you up nicely :-)
Last but not least, Royksopp :-)

Happy hunting!!
:P

Hi,

Indie music is well known for its low profile and refusal to conform to current trends. The artists take pride in their individuality and their ability to survive in a cutthroat industry without compromising on their beliefs.

Hi,

That's not entirely true, though. Not being signed to a record label, Radiohead is an indie (independent) band at the moment, while still being pretty mainstream.
