1st gen iPhone update issue

Every time I update my iPhone software on my 1st gen iPhone it inevitably freezes my phone and gives me a 2005 error. I have to go to a different machine, restore my software (initialize phone), then bring it back to my registered mac and reinstall and resync everything. When it crashes, I can't even use the phone. Anyone have tips or advice on this issue?
