WOW! That's far too much like hard work!
Bengt77
Nov 8, 2009, 08:54 AM
Yes, it's hard work indeed. But I'm supposed to be seriously studying right now, and you probably know what happens then. You go and find stuff to do that has nothing to do with studying. Plus, a couple of friends and I had decided to make lists like this anyways, so it was little effort to post mine here. And I really am interested in what others consider to be the best albums of this decade.

WOW! That's far too much like hard work!
I agree! 10 would be a lot better so here's my tenner (all are not from this decade):
1. Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
2. Nile- Those Whom the Gods Detest
3. Nile - Ithyphallic
4. Misery Index - Discordia
5. Immortal - Damned In Black
6. Immortal - All Shall Fall
7. Rotten Sound - Exit
8. Misery Index - Traitors
9. Ensiferum - From Afar
10. Vital Remains - Dechristianize

Aw, that's a shame! Maybe you could edit your list so that there are only albums on it that are from these last ten years? I'll go and check out Immortal. Never heard of the band, but if you hold them in such high regard, the music should be good. Thanks for posting!

Well, I made a list of my top 30 albums ever, and here were the ones from the 2000's:
1. Vanessa Carlton-Be Not Nobody
2. Evanescence-Fallen
3. Avril Lavigne-Let Go
4. Nine Inch Nails-Year Zero
5. The Black Mages-The Black Mages
6. POD-Satellite
7. Weird Al-Poodle Hat
8. Kelly Clarkson-Breakaway
9. Machinae Supremacy-Dues Ex Machinae

11.Soulja Boy-Souljaboytellem.com
12. N Sync-Celebrity
13.Nine Inch Nails-Ghosts I-IV
14.Animal Collective-Merriweather Post Pavilion
And no, I'm not a "victim to the music industry". I listen to lots of "real" music, but most of that is from other decades.

Thanks.
I'm listening to Immortal now. Black Metal is not really my thing, but I'm impressed by the percussion. Is that all done by the drummer himself, or does he use a drum computer? If it's him alone, he's one hell of a musician. And he must have two huge forearms.

Yeah, they really are great, aren't they? And they should indeed be way more popular than they are.

Fifty is indeed too much like work, but I'll compromise with ten.
These are liable to change - it's really just what I'm loving at the moment.
1: The Fall of Math - 65daysofstatic.
2: Hymn to the Immortal Wind - Mono.
3: The Blackening - Machine Head.
4: Origin of Symmetry - Muse.
5: And the Glass Handed Kites - Mew.
6: Kid A - Radiohead.
7: Maybeshewill - Not For Want of Trying.
8. And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watch You From Afar.
9. Drukqs - Aphex Twin.
10. The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw.
And an honourary mention to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel, which would be at no.1 if it was released this decade.
That was a lot harder to make than I thought it would be. I thought I was up to date with music. :/

You're right. Using up an hour and a half of my life to make a pointless list that'll probably change within a week anyway, to show people who I've never, nor am likely to meet is totally worth it.

It's just the drummer, Horgh. He is a great drummer, just saw Immortal back in June and I have to say, they are amazing at live.
If you want to hear even more insane drumming, check out Nile! Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QG3IhJFTOk) is good song from them (listen to the drum fill in the beginning, it's inhumanly insane!)

I will post my list sometime in the next little while. I will also have to go through my favorite's of this year to. Original poster, the Wilco record came out in 2002, not 2007. But i enjoy most of the lists on here.
Though i enjoy a quite a bit of black metal (bathory, wolves in the throne room, weakling, deathspell omega, enslaved) I cannot stand immortal. Fun band, with funny pictures, but not musically that interesting. Their best record if i had to pick one is At The Heart of Winter.

No Line On The Horizon - U2 (Interscope, March 3)
Sun Gangs - The Veils (Rough Trade, April 6th)
Let It Beat - Shwayze (Suretone Geffen, November 3)
The Fray - The Fray (Epic, July 28)
Straight No Chaser - Mr Hudson (GOOD Music, October 19)
Man on the Moon: The End of Day - KiD CuDi(Dream On, GOOD Music, Universal Motown; September 15)
So Far Gone (Mixtape) - Drake (October's Very Own, Young Money Entertainment; February 13)
Relapse - Eminem (Shady, Aftermath, Interscope; May 19)
Waking Up - OneRepublic (Interscope, November 17)
No Ceilings (Mixtape) - Lil Wayne (Cash Money Records, Young Money Entertainment; October 31)
City of Black & White - Mat Kearney (Sony, May 19)
Back & Forth - Pete Yorn (Sony, June 23)
The E.N.D. - The Black Eyed Peas (Interscope, June 9)
Stems And Seeds - Ben Folds (Sony, February 10)
Towards The Sun EP - Alexi Murdoch (Indie, November)
A Matter of Time (Mixtape) - Mike Posner & The Brain Trust (J Records, February 28)
Union - The Boxer Rebellion (Unsigned, January 11)
When The Devil's Loose - A.A. Bondy (Fat Possum, September 1)
Slaughterhouse - Slaughterhouse (E1 Music; August 11th)
One Love - David Guetta (Astralwerks, August 25)
Asleep In The Bread Aisle – Asher Roth (SRC, Universal Motown; April 21)
En Concert - Jack Johnson (Brushfire, Universal; October 27)
Monsters of Folk - Monsters of Folk (Shangri-La Music, Rough Trade; September 22)
The Interesting stats game. Interscope Records has the most albums on the list (four) and Rough Trade, a label you likely haven't heard of, features two albums. There were four albums from the month of September and two albums came out on the same day, May 19th. French DJ, David Guetta and his album "One Love", in Special Edition form has the most songs, thirty-one in total. Alexi Murdoch's limited edition EP, Towards the Sun EP, features only seven. In total there are 370 songs... or so I think? Lil Wayne's voice can be heard on four different albums and The Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" can be found on three separate albums. Eminem's "Paul (Skit)" was the shortest tract at nineteen seconds (Eminem actually had three skits that were the shortest amongst all tracks) and Alexi Murdoch's "Crinan Wood" is the longest track at eight minutes and forty-three seconds.
Edit, Some More Info: There are two "indie" artist on the lists (Union & Alexi Murdoch). I would imagine that when everything is worked out number one or two will likely sell the most copies on the list, number nine and fourteen might also have something to say about it as well, but we shall see. Alexi Murdoch will get the low by default as his EP is hand-numbered and limited to 5,000 copies. There are two mixtapes on the list and one live album. Four albums feature mostly remixes. The Fray, Let It Beat, Straight No Chaser, City of Black & White, Back & Forth, Stems and Seeds and Asleep In The Bread Aisle previously had not mentioned in the random facts game and Alexi Murdoch's Towards The Sun EP, the album you are least likely to own by default, is tied for being discussed the most with Eminem's Relapse, both were mentioned four times prior to this last sentence.

Here's my top 32. Because 32's a nice round number, like.
But not as round as, say, 33. Which also happens to be a most splendid song (Thirty-Three) from 1996, by some obscure, small indie band called Thrashing Lumpkins, or something like that.
In all seriousness, though, that's a fine list you've got there! Even though it's quite clear you're being a bit chauvinistic, though. All albums by non-British bands/artists in your list can be counted on one hand. :p

1) The Avalanches - Since I Left You (November 27, 2000)
I consider this to be the best album ever made. Hip hop concept album extravaganza. Made entirely from samples, 3500 samples to be exact. This is exactly what albums SHOULD be. A vehicle to tell some kind of story, taking the listeners on a journey. Get a drink, have a good time now, welcome to paradise.

2) J Dilla - Donuts (February 7, 2006)
The magnum opus of the worlds greatest hip hop producer. J-Dilla. This is really the culmination of all he'd been working towards in his short, but mighty career. Hip hop beats, soul samples, a window into the mind of a genius. This is the final album he released before he died of Lupus related conditions. R.I.P.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/14/Dilladonutscover.jpg/200px-Dilladonutscover.jpg
3) Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (June 10, 2008)
Another Hip hop concept album. This time by producer Flying Lotus. Instead of samples, FlyLo utilises space age beats and record static to create an exhilarating journey into the future of hip hop.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/89/Flylo_la.jpg/200px-Flylo_la.jpg
4) Common - Like Water For Chocolate (March 28, 2000)
Wow. Just wow. For me this is the peak of The Soulquarian's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulquarians) work. Though many others may argue D'Angelo holds that crown with 'Voodoo'. If you only ever listen to one hip hop album in your entire life. Check this out. Funky organic beats, socially conscious lyrics. Common, you the man.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/97/LikeWaterforChocolate.jpg/200px-LikeWaterforChocolate.jpg
5) Radiohead - In Rainbows (October 10, 2007)
Moving away from hip hop now, it's hard to think of another band/artist apart from Radiohead who consistently release albums of this calibre. The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief and now In Rainbows. Where will it end for these guys? It's great to hear them blending their alt rock aesthetic with hip hop, electronica and a more subtle delivery this time. Truly ground breaking stuff. Props to Radiohead for using this album to offer a new model to the world of how music can be consumed outside of record labels.

6) Björk - Vespertine (August 27, 2001)
Love her or hate her, the lady knows how to create beautiful, expressive art. This album is just so immersive, continuity of instrumentation and mood ties these songs together to create an album that explores the most intimate themes imaginable. Subtle electronic beats and soft melodies inevitably draw you in.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/56/BjorkVespertine.jpeg/200px-BjorkVespertine.jpeg
7) M.I.A. - Kala (August 8, 2007)
Sri Lankan. Socially conscious. Gorgeous. Future of Hip Hop. All hail the future of hip hop M.I.A. and her stunning second album Kala. This lady has a knack for getting the best out of her producers and packaging all her songs in epic albums which prove to be not only funky and danceable but also great commentaries for the real problems in our world.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4a/Mia-kala.jpg/200px-Mia-kala.jpg
8) D'Angelo - Voodoo (January 25, 2000)
The natural evolution of what Prince laid the groundwork for in the 80's. Gorgeous neo-soul music laden with funky hip hop beats. Like J Dilla and Common, D'Angelo is another product of the immensely talented Soulquarian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulquarians) collective.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cc/Voodoo_UK.jpg/200px-Voodoo_UK.jpg
9) Portishead - Third (April 28, 2008)
Really interesting music. This long awaited third album by UK trip hop band Portishead sees the band move in a more organic direction. Vocals by Beth Gibbons are still as haunting as ever. Stunning.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/08/Portishead-third.jpg/200px-Portishead-third.jpg
10) Beck - Sea Change (September 24, 2002)
Beck stunned the music world when he toned down his alt rock and hip hop blending craziness and released this subtle introspective acoustic album. Written and recorded entirely after a rough break up, this album is an insight into the bittersweet recovery process from a long relationship. This album is produced by Radiohead's long time producer Nigel Godrich. Definitely Frank Sinatra's 'In The Wee Small Hours' of the 00's.
