Pocket-lint reports (http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/29434/orange-iphone-sales-smash-records) that UK wireless provider Orange is claiming that it has sold over 30,000 iPhones as of 4:00 p.m. on launch day for the carrier, reportedly smashing records for one-day mobile phone sales. The news comes via a Twitter post (http://twitter.com/conorfromorange) from Conor Maples, a member of Orange's communications team.Orange UK had sold more than 30k iPhones, smashing what we believe is the previously published first day sales records for a phone in the UK!It is unclear what Orange considered to be the previous record. TechRadar notes (http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/orange-claims-iphone-first-day-sales-record-648799) that O2, the initial exclusive iPhone provider, was rumored to have sold 8,000 original iPhones at its November 2007 launch (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/11/09/european-iphone-launches-germany-uk/), but an O2 spokesperson reported that the number was substantially higher without providing a more specific count.

Orange announced (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/28/orange-announces-plans-to-offer-iphone-in-uk/) in late September plans to begin offering the iPhone in the UK, ending O2 and Apple's exclusive relationship there. The following day, Vodafone also revealed plans (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/29/vodafone-to-begin-selling-iphone-in-uk-and-ireland-in-early-2010/) to begin offering the iPhone in the UK, although it will not begin doing so until early next year.

But they failed to deliver the one that my girlfriend ordered last week.

Spent the whole day waiting after being told that it would be delivered before 5pm. Only to then be told that it might not have been sent.

Better be here tomorrow!

Anybody got any numbers for O2's launches of the 3G and 3GS?

Not bad, not bad at all. A bit late to the party though :D

At least they're lucky enough to not have idiot companies who refuse to join the rest of the world in the GSM standard.
I'd like choice here too.

Not if they keep the same prices. My iPhone (O2) has been stolen, and I've got to wait until new year for an upgrade (new iPhone). It's only a few months and I've been an iPhone customer since the first one (even though it was at the same monthly price with unsubsidised handset). I'm unhappy with O2 for making so much from me and not letting me upgrade a little bit earlier.

I'd switch to Orange, but there's no benefit at all.

I barely consider an individual's twitter update to be a reputable source. Was this from an official, verified Orange twitter account?

It's still good to have choices since the coverage varies from network to network and this way one can choose the carrier that provides the best coverage for them.

Yes, he works in the Orange news room.

The Twitter feed is linked (http://newsroom.orange.co.uk/subscribe/) from their website.

I am with Orange and have an iPhone 3G (Unlocked/Jailbreak).
What does this mean for me now? I also saw (briefly) a future app orange was bringing out to manage your account. It was on their mini site along with something else but i can't find them now and theyre not in the app store.

Interestingly, I only know of two people in my vicinity who went with Orange - one's considered to return and did, because of the "unlimited" data usage, aka 750MB.
