Firewire 800 external Hard drive no longer shutting down with imac

The western digital 1tb raid mybook shutdown down and turned on with my computer, then sudddenly:

1)it no longer shuts down with my computer, very upsetting because even when I press the power button it stays on, and my Imac is turned off!
2)when i turn my iMac on it actually turns off 🙁

The only things I have done lately that I could see effecting it:

1)upgrading from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2
2) Changing the hard drive from raid 1 back to raid 0.
