Apparently, the MS/Bungie duo has created a pretty neat marketing ploy to help generate hype for Halo2 through viral marketing. In the Halo 2 theatrical trailer (the new one), at the end, the "www.xbox.com" becomes "www.ilovebees.com" for a very short time.

When you go to www.ilovebees.com, the site looks like it has been hacked and corrupted, as there is formatting gone awry, images corrupted, and pop-up countdowns. But, all of these tie into a bigger picture engineered most probably by Bungie (a little like the "A.I." movie's puzzle). There's a whole community of people out there trying to figure out what the whole scheme is hinting at. It's rather interesting. A lot of commentary can be found on the ilovebees.com (http://ilovebees.com) complementary blog (http://ilovebees.blogspot.com/) (the link in the main page's FAQ).

Check it out.

This whole thing is an ARG (alternate reality game). It all started when a few prominent ARG'ers recieved honey with the letters seeilveob in the honey. They found ilovebees, and then the Halo 2 trailer came out.

For those new to ARG's (like myself), this is a new genre of game that uses the internet as a canvas to create a mystery. The point is to solve the mystery, however, no two ARG's are alike.

It appears that this game (dubbed SPiDeR), will unfold again on the 10th of August when the "medium will metastasize". Then on August 24th, the " COUNTDOWN TO WIDE AWAKE AND PHYSICAL" will end.

What does it all mean??? That's the point of the game, figure it out.

For what it's worth, several clues have already been disected. One, multiple clusters of 7 websites yeild a short paragraph about some kind of AI conversing in a holograph with a space refugee. Two, the photos on the site change all the time, and contain hidden/encoded (and cryptic) text about the widow???

Have fun!!! ;)

Unusual, but after looking around ilovebees it definitely has that Bungie feel to it.

Almost as fun as Marathon II and Myth. Got 39.25 on my second try... don't think I'll do much better than that.

I was looking around at that stuff for a week, and then my friend posted on my blog something very interesting.

He was looking at the bungie blog and just like with the twisted spelling of ilovebees, the whole black paragraph is twisted text...

If I'm wrong, don't blame me, but when rearranged the original message

HALT - MODULE CORE HEMORRHAGE
SYSTEM PERIL DISTRIBUTED REFLEX.
STRONG INTRUSIVE INCLINATION.
COUNTDOWN TO WIDE AWAKE AND PHYSICAL :

Becomes...

INDEX THIS IRONCLAD PREDICTION :
HALO TWO SINGLE PLAYER DEMO
CD-ROM DISK INCURSION AT AUGUST TWENTY FOUR.
EARTH WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

that could be the hint, or it could all be a hoax, who knows... But if it's true, it's gonna be cool.

Its like that Sega football game with realistic impact thingy. that whole video was cool - and all for marketing. i wouldn't be at all suprised if this was something similar.

I just had a thought...

Bungie has always been a Mac developer (until recently of course). Maybe, just maybe, they're going to give us Mac users a playable demo of Halo 2 come 24/8 :D

Just had a quick browse through the blogs and I must say it is amazing what people will find out. Someone even went through the hassle to collect reocurring words in the websites from the links provided on this site. Pretty crazy. http://bees.netninja.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
And I also think that if this comes from Bungie they should be given some major credit for thinking of stuff like this. Who else would do sth. like this? To create a game like this must take some major effort.
