Looking to replace the stock nVidia GeForce 2MX (32mb) with something a little um better. I don't play video games, I need this for Photoshop & Flash mainly. I can pick up the ATI Radeon 9000 (128mb) for $160 from OWC or I can get a flashed 9800 Pro for $260. I'm not worried about the money, but I've heard anything above the 9000 on a Quicksilver is wasted (barefeats.com). Or should I search for a Geforce 4Ti?
If anyone has experience with anything I mentioned I's appreciate some feedback.
thanks,
-j

If you aren't going to be playing games then the video ram is really what counts for what you do. The 9000 is a good upgrade from a GeForce 2mx.

I've got the 9800 Pro and it works well I do some light gaming and it is great for mid resolutions. But since you are mainly concerned with PS and Flash I would say 9000 would be good. I do kinda also agree with barefeets in that now my video card is faster than my processors so it is kinda wasted speed.

For 2D-only applications, the 9000 will suit your needs. However, keep in mind the requirements for Core Image (in Tiger).
Supported graphics cards:
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra
NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200 Ultra
Because of this, I would recommend trying to find a 9600 Pro for your G4, or a used/ebay 9700 or 9800.

While the 9000 will do what I need, I didn't even think about this! Great advice.

go with the 9000, unless you have another $100 to freely spend :)

Then what you have now is adequate.
What's lacking in your Photoshop and Flash performance?
