Hi, i have a Mac Pro 1,1 (2007) running 10.6.2 with Boot Camp 3.0.1 and i want to install some version of Windows 64 bit via Boot Camp so i can utilize all of my RAM for playing PC games.

I've already done a bit of research on this, but i cannot get a clear consensus on which ones will work (if any).

Does anyone know of any versions of 64 bit Windows that i can use to successfully install on my Mac Pro 1,1 with boot camp?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Nick.

XP 64-bit doesn't work on any computer using Boot Camp. Vista 64-bit works with some Macs, and yours isn't listed. For Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit, it's also looking like Apple doesn't intend to release any officially supported drivers for your Mac Pro either. Then again, this is official support we're talking about, if you can find the drivers you can probably find a way to make things work.

Vista & Windows 7 64bit DO work on the MacPro 1.1.

There is an injector to get the dvd to work properly.

Follow link and it will work. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 retail, no problem at all. Snow Leopard Bootcamp 3 drivers worked, and then let Windows 7 update any drivers it thought out of date. So far everything is working perfect on it.

This had happened to me before when installing Vista x64 on a Mac Pro, the simple reason is that Microsoft now has their own version of the EFI and Apple has their own version…well guess what, they don’t work together. How to fix….? I did some searching in my notes and remembered how I had done this so here you are (must be done in Windows)

* Create 3 folders c:\7iso c:\7exe c:\7dvd
* Download this .exe file and put into c:\7exe
* Take your downloaded Windows 7 .iso and copy it into c:\7iso and unzip it (use winrar or another similar tool)
* Move the actual .iso file that you copied in out of c:7iso
* Open a command prompt and get to the c:\7exe directory
* Type: oscdimg1.exe -n -m -bc:\7iso\boot\etfsboot.com c:\7iso c:\7dvd\7dvd.iso

The 7dvd.iso is the file you will burn onto a new DV

There's two separate issues here.
1) Can XP64, Vista 64, and Windows 7 64 install and boot on macpro1,1?
Yes, all three will install and boot just fine.
2) Can I use Apple's drivers and software in xp64/vista64/win764
No, not really. You can manually install the drivers one by one if you extract them and there's probably workarounds that can make the software install but Apple doesn't like to support old products so they do what they can to make it suck.

I'm running windows 7 ultimate on my macpro1,1 as I type this. the bootcamp2 stuff (which i believe was the first one shipping with 64bit and only claims to support early 08 and later macpros) installed fine. The bootcamp3 stuff on the snow leopard dvd wont install at all as it just claims this computer isn't supported. I haven't messed with it further.

I just thought I would share my Mac Pro 1.1 experience. I recently had to replace a failed memory riser card by buying a pair from ebay (they both failed a month apart) and took advantage of the opportunity to replace my Mac Pro 2006 with the 2008 model for $700 and inserted my drives and upgraded to 10.8.5. Just holding off on Mavericks for now... Bought a Radeon 5770 and graphics are just peachy (i'm not a gamer). Then I put a samsung ssd 512gb in as the system drive and a 3tb for data so that machine is going fine

What to do with the 2006 Mac Pro?. No one wants it on ebay so I thought i'd try it on Windows. Windows 32bit loads via boot camp once you figure out how to recognise the sata bus (depends on your windows 7 dvd version i think) but under 32 bit you only get 2gb usable ram ! something , not just video is addressing 2gb so that *****. You cannot boot off the 64bit dvd (try it) so i installed 64bit windows 7 on a clean drive on my core2dou pc then put the drive in my 4core xeon mac pro. It booted fine and installed alot of drivers for the xeons automatically. Then I got some drivers from 64bit bootcamp and sound drivers from the realtek website. Then , I upgraded to 64 bit windows 8 pro and everything still works. Then, I downloaded the free windows 8.1 pro update and everything still works..... As PCs go, this is still a pretty fast machine, and gives little away to , say an i5 or i7. If you put in an SSD and gamers video card it would fly, but i dont need that....
