Description:: If the rumors are true, the tablet will be able to do basically everything a gadget could possibly do. It's an e-reader, a gaming device, and a music player. You can watch TV and movies on it and surf the Internet (or so we've heard). And it will have thousands of third-party apps available for it ... or maybe it will run Mac OS X. That's all still unknown.

Coolest device ... ever? Maybe. Some analysts are channeling their inner-Frodo, saying the Apple tablet will be the one gadget to rule them all.

"This will be the next big thing," said Laura DiDio, principal analyst at ITIC. "Apple is going to wow everybody with the tablet."

I generally don't post any articles about rumored products that aren't yet on the market (or even are known to exist) but I figured with this relatively comprehensive article, what the hey.

Looks like it might be wise to invest in some more Apple Shares if it is going to be that ground breaking.

I honestly must say, that what I have heard so far, doesn't make me feel excited. I wouldn't know what extra benefit such a device could have for me. I am looking for something more along the lines of MS Courier. Something that is simple and flexible as a paper notebook combined with the power on MS OneNote.

"Apple typically prices their products higher than competitors, because they install top-of-the-line hardware..."

Oh, good Lord...

It seems inevitable that this theoretical tablet, should it ever materialize, will NOT live up to everyone's ridiculous expectations. I've never heard a description that actually sounds compelling--everyone's just relying on "theoretical hype"...that Apple will somehow wow us with something we could never dream of.

And if it doesn't ship on date-certain, or lacks some feature Apple never promised any mythical "tablet" would have, the stock price will be hammered and the tech pundits will poo-pooh all over it. And speculation will begin on when the Droid tablet will appear running Google OS, that will surely destroy the pathetic device Apple vomitted onto the marketplace in a shameless effort to sell more iTunes Extras content.

Anyone remember the Segway?

I get suspicious when people claim this or that product will completely change my life. The impact of truly revolutionary products often isn't noticed until many years after they're introduced. I'm not currently interested in the tablet because I already have one that fits in my pocket: an iPhone. I wouldn't have an interest in carrying around something all day that didn't fit in my pocket, unless perhaps it was like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H0K1k54t6A).

true, true, but not talking about something that is getting as pervasive as this is just boring. :)

by the way, there's a thread on this now stemming from the main page story about it, so let's just reroute posting there, thanks.
