Can't download apps on iphone by wi-fi. HELP!!

I've been trying to download a couple of free apps on my iphone 3gs over a wi-fi connection in my home as they are over 10MB and so I can't use 3G. However, when I try it just says "An unknown error occurred". No matter how many times I retry or try other apps I get the same problem.
How do I fix this??
 
How much space is left on your flash drive? Have you tried rebooting the phone and then downloading?
 
I have well over half of my space left on the device. I have tried rebooting the phone but I still get the same error.
