I purchased c2d, and to be honest the processor speed is fine, However ive got an issue with the screen so im taking it back tomorrow and going to get the i5 as its always been in the back of my mind on wanting one!!
I have the C2D. My most intensive work is with Logic 9. I've barely tapped the CPU yet.... and here I find myself wondering if I should return it for an I5.

Hi, I'm a new Mac user the 27" c2d iMac is my first mac, so far I love it, sooo
much better than my old PC - but thats another story.
I use it for all the basics email,surf,iTunes etc plus photo editing with PSE & basic video editing using iMovie. Everything I want to do it seems to do with ease, I have has no complaints from the kids (who use garageband a lot) or the wife (most important !)
I have had no problems other than the Safari "multi window" (sorry can't remember the correct name) graphics going weird when selecting a web page, but the 10.6.2 update sorted it.🙂 .
My only concern was is the screen too big ? - Not a chance, so glad I didn't get the 21". Sorry waffled a bit, summary c2d plenty of power for my use 😀

I'm completely satisfied with mine, it does everything I need it to.
I figure there are 3 realistic price-points in the iMac line-up: base 21.5", base 27", and quad-core. Any other configuration doesn't really make much sense, as it's logical to move on up to the next configuration after options are added on. So, considering each of these options is roughly $300-500 apart, I chose the one in my price range with the features I needed, not necessarily all the features I wanted. Sure I'd take an i5, but I couldn't afford it, and the C2D really is tough to push very hard unless you're running some intense programs. But go with what you can afford, obviously the newest technology will have a longer usefulness period.

If you shop around, there are some places selling the i5 for around
$1850. The fact that its 35-50% faster than the C2D makes it a common sense choice
among the 27" offerings. Huge difference! But that's just my opinion. Heck, some people like Sarah Palin (figure that out lol).
If you really want to save money get a Mini with a separate monitor. If you want a 27", get THE 27" i5 or i7.

Thanks Philinghorn. I guess I'd rather save some money by purchasing the C2D to buy the itablet when it comes out.😀
