you can make Skype calls over your 3G network. That coupled with an unlimited data plan allows you to make those type of calls free.

It's only free to another skype user. Normally skype is wifi only, this makes it possible to use on 3G. Going from a skype call to a landline/mobile is called 'skype-out' and is chargeable.

Yup - great deal. I believe I pay $8.40 every 3 months for my unlimited US and Canada plan. They do need to work on the quality though - it's not that great over 3G right now.

I don't know if that is Skype's fault.
If it is equally shaky on Wi-Fi and 3G, then yes Skype should work on it. And, I myself have problems using a jbroken phone over Wi-Fi. So there probably is room for improvement.
However, if it works fine on Wi-Fi, but the 3G is shaky .. then you know who to blame.
