There is no "best" because it really depends on what you want. IMHO...
Tweetie 2 is the best iPhone app to access twitter.
Tweetdeck is the best twitter app that runs on the iPhone.
Get the difference?

I've heard echofon is a good one. I have it and it seems fine, but I must admit I'm not a twitterer.

I love that app. It's cool to pull from the menu bar like android's shade, and you can do either twitter and facebook, or just one of them. It is only for sending updates, not for replying, viewing, etc.

qTweeter is completely different. It is made for the sole purpose of updating your status for both Tweeter and Facebook (Simultaneously too if you want) from within any program. It is like SBSettings where you can open it from anywhere, type what your update and that's it.

is this a joke:(
No. Not at all.
Tweetie 2 is a clean, elegant, highly functional app to tweet and follow twits on twitter.com
Tweetdeck is a corpulent, configurable, powerful TWITTER PLATFORM to wrangle your 10,000 followers and spend all day long sending twits and retweeting and tagging tweets.
It all depends on what you want to do. If you drank the Twitter Kool Aid then tweetdeck will let you spend hours reading and tweeting. If you're not quite sure why 140 characters is so magical, Tweetie 2 will give you a pleasing app on your iPhone to access twitter.
Which one's best? Depends on you.

Tweetie will insert streamlined pictures without loading additional pages, it also does twitlonger automatically if your tweet is too large.

Twitterrific is my favorite twitter client for iPhone. I've used a lot of them, but Twitterrific is the only app that really serves up all of the functionality that I need.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. It has to pull the tweets from Twitter's server, because I believe the app has to call to Twitter before it displays the Tweets.

I understand what you're probably thinking, but I use Twitter as an extension of my web businesses and for my clients, so if I'm going to look at using a Twitter app it better work well! :p

Tweetie 2.1 is close. Adds Retweets and Geolocation. Lists coming in 2.2. Mac app should be out between the two.

Echofon Pro has had Push for a long time. It's by far the best Twitter client if you seriously use it.
For the record, I have...
Echofon Pro
Tweetie 2.0
Twittelator Pro
Birdfeed
SimplyTweet
Anyways, it really depends on what you use and how you use it. Honestly, Tweetie is my least favorite. The plain white kills me and the way you reload the page is ridiculous.

In my experience, EchoFon is the most straight forward Twitter app with push capability as a plus. It also has a great UI.

Tweetie 2 is my fave.
The one thing that stops me from using Tweetie 2 is the lack of a dark theme. The bright white background is a bit harsh. If they ever add themes, I'll give it another try.

Interesting. I think that the way you reload the page is very intuitive and ties in perfectly with the way you already use the app to read tweets - by scrolling upwards.

I have Tweetie 2, Twitbit, and Echofon in my iPhone. Tweetie 2 has the most features and looks the best, but Echofon is the fastest of the bunch. Sometimes I just want to Tweet as quickly as possible and that's not going to happen with Tweetie 2 or Twitbit.
