No video output

Is their a setting on my mac note book for video output?
I used to get a picture on the wide screens i connected to but for some reason i have no more output from my mac to screen i have version 10.5.8. I have a karaoke program i run, I'm using a video out adaptor that i got from the apple store with a vga style end
witch plugs into a converter box that converts s-video,rca,component i use component to the wide screens. I thought it might be the box that is defective so i purchased a straight out with a component end Grn,Red,Blue to go in to the screen input still nothing. Hope this is enough information : ) Help!!!!!!

It should recognise it straight away. What machine and version of OSX you running?

In addition to what Mac and Mac OS X version you have, we also need to know which adapter for video output you use and what input into what kind of monitor you use.
