Odd Proxim Orinoco Classic Card Problem

I own a Proxim Orinoco Classic Gold (8410-WD) wireless card. When I plug it into my Powerbook Aluminum's cardbus slot, and open the iOXperts driver control panel, it doesn't detect my card. The same thing happens with the wireless.sourceforge.net drivers. The card's power light isn't even on. However, if I open KisMac, a wardriving program, the light comes on. Then I can close KisMac, and the iOXperts drivers detect my card just fine, as do the other drivers. I'd prefer not to have to "kick-start" my card everytime. I'd greatly appreciate suggestions.
