Airport Express placement

I have an Airport Express in a powerstrip on the floor of my office. It works fine, and links with the second AE upstairs. But I was wondering what is the best way to plug it in: with the port ends (USB printer + DSL connector) facing outwards, or the other way around. I just want to get the optimum use of the internal antenna(s).

from looking at a teardown, the antenna runs from the power plug down the short side of the express (so, not towards the ports)
