I'm sorry to bother you guys but whatever I try in regards to getting tethering to work it just simply won't work. I did the install MyWi and then delete bit and that worked great but a couple weeks later, I tried tethering and when I enabled it the option just disappeared from network settings. I tried reinstalling MyWi but my trial is up. I tried the Benm way and the tethering option reappeared but when I hooked it up to my computer and hit enable, the option disappeared again. I even went as low as getting the cracked version of MyWi off Cydia and STILL the option would appear and when enabled...would disappear. Does anyone have a solution to my problem? Thanks again in advance for the response.

I have an iPhone 3G running 3.1.2. Also, I have gotten my iPhone to tether via bluetooth just not USB. I have a Mac running Snow Leopard anyone have any ideas on fixing that issue?

Don't use MyWi... do the following.

1. Install from repositories iFoneGuide.nl
2. Install Tethering Patch (3G or 3GS, which ever applies)
3. Go in Safari and type: http://help.benm.at
4. Install Mobile Configuration file for your carrier/country
5. Reset Network settings
6. iPhone will reboot and Tethering will be enabled
7. ????
8. PROFIT!!

You didn't state what OS you're on or whether you have a 3G or 3GS. If you're on 3.0 or 3.0.1 you can use this:

Alright, I tried the BenM hack and to my surprise I actually got tethering working, however, it only works via bluetooth, I was wondering how you get USB tethering to work?

I found the perfect fix. Delete mywi and everything that has to do with it and rockapp install blacksn0w to unlock your phone and then install the 6.0 carrier file it gives you native tethering APN settings and you get the native tethering counter it's so much better than dealing with mywi

Do you have to use blacksn0w?

What's the 6.0 carrier file?

I think you have to be unlocked that way you bypass some security checks or something of that sort. I believe in the thread it discusses it. Anyways, here is the thread to get the 6.0 carrier file

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=793195

Just download it, and option click update from itunes then install it from there. It really is the best way and the native tethering data calculator is so nice.

Then download the tethering hack for your particular model iphone.

why is that not more known? all this messing about with ssh and crm seems pointless if you can add a repo and download a patch!!

Because it doesn't work for a lot of people and it messes with visual voicemail mms and wifi

thats because you used the wrong mobileconfig

none of them mess up wifi, you dont have to unlock your phone. just apply the patch outlined in this thread:

Cheers will try this when I get in I was using PDAnet instead. But I think native tethering will be better.

Do your iPhone gets quite warm/hot when you download around 300-500MB?
Do you keep you iPhone charging while you tether?

I didnt notice it get any warmer than normal use but I usually tether thru USB so it charges at the same time.

I reinstalled the sinful repo and downloaded the tethering for 3G, restarted my phone because it said reboot, then reset network settings once it turned on, i went to network and tethering was right there and used it. I dont know what happened the first couple of times but it didnt work.
