I wanted to know if anyone else is having this issue.

It fails to sleep after the given time. Screen dims but I can still hear it running.

If I manually put it to sleep, it clearly makes noise (hard drive parks heads).

I currently only have the following software installed.

1) MS Office
2) Plex
3) Fusion
4) Iwork
5) Istat

Try these:

Although I'm sure you have already checked this but make sure under system pref>energy saver you set to put the computer to sleep.

For testing purposes, deactivate screen saver (set it to "never"), set both display and computer sleep to "3 minutes". Enable (check mark) put the hard disk to sleep when possible.

To isolate the cause, unplug all external hard drives, printer/scanner etc from your imac, and make sure it's not on a network. Then proceed to do the followings:-
Repair permission with Onyx or Disk Utility and reboot to check status again. This alone should fix your problem.
If this doesn't fix your problem, reset SMC and PRAM.

And I also reset SMC and PRAM.

Still no go.

I decided to wipe/reinstall.

It sleeps now.

I am beginning to think it is VMware Fusion.

I will hold off installing that until the bugs get worked out further.

Check out one of my previous posts. I fixed this same problem a few days ago.
