I slot in my SC card into the disc drive

I have accidentally slot in my SD card into the disc drive. Is there anyway I can take it out again? Will apple charge me for this? It is still in the warranty period. Anyway, I have to pay if they charge me. So careless!! Feel like the end of the world now.

unplug the imac and turn it on its side and then use a pair of tweezers or an index card to open the cloth flap that covers the cd opening. That card should fall out..I don't think it could drop into the machine any further than the CD slot.

Hah. I've managed to drop two DVDs by trying to insert them at the top right of the machine (like on the 20" iMac G5 it's replacing) rather than the centre where I should.

But the OP did directly ask "Will apple charge me for this? It is still in the warranty period." so I answered the question. I do not feel that it was in any way rude. If you are so offended by it I suggest you use the report feature of the forum to bring it to a moderators attention.

I think this could easily happen to more than one person. The slots are close together and I can totally see people not looking and just going by feel and then whoops! ;)

This is true, this has just happened to me on Saturday night *arggh* been quoted AUD132 to get it out by a Authorised Mac Technician... A frustrating waste of money

that was exactly what i was thinking when i first had a look at the iMac 27 people are used to sit in front of the middle of the screen , so i wondered because you have to bend a bit around to fiddle in a dvd or a sd and these two slots are really close together , so he will not be the last one who accidently loses his sd card in the dvd drive
in my opinion it would be a better idea to fit a sd card reader on the keyboard , enough space would be there

So I did this silly thing too, stucking the card in the wrong slot. I believe so many other people will do it because the slots are easy to confound when you're doing things automatically.

After reading the few posts where people try to help, I created this little instrument shown in the attached picture. It was cut from a soft plastic spatula (for painting), which is as thick as the card. With a little help from my man, the card came out easily, the cd drive is working perfectly and so is the card.

Some of you guys spend such a lot of testosterone in silly disputes... should do like us, women, and use your brains instead. That's the only reason we do mistakes for: to learn from them.

PS: I mixed the toenail colour myself, too. If you need to be rude, can simply say my foot is ugly. :o

It happened to me twice already but I was lucky enough not to let it in completely so I could use some small pliers to grab the corner out.

By the way you don't want to use that cloth to clean the monitor after it's been on the floor or you'll scratch the glass.;)

Some of the rants on MR I don't at all appreciate because some people here won't take any responsibility for their own actions, however in this case, I have to say, Apple either screwed up or they planned it this way. I don't at all like how close they put the SD card slot to the DVD drive on the iMac, it's just stupid. I'm sorta voting for Apple planning it this way on purpose.

Creating reasons to get the DVD drive fixed and extracting money from people for making this very common mistake of putting the SD card into the DVD drive and possibly messing up the drive which won't be covered under Applecare of course.
