you, the film-maker, shoot a film on a single cartridge of super 8 film. then you hand over your exposed but un-developed, un-edited film for processing. you also burn an original soundtrack onto cd.

the first time you see your work is with a packed cinema audience, also seeing it for the first time.

sounds fun? it is. sounds scary? it is.

this sounds totally rad... :D

I bet Kodak loves the idea...

That reminds me, I should get some cartridges for that camera I picked up for $4 at a yard sale...

Reminds me of my old film class in college - we had projects with the same constraints - very cool stuff came out of it. Some films were trash - others brilliant.

There's a place now here in Chicago that has a great film contest once a year. You have 24 hours to write a script, shoot, edit and score your film. Then they have a festival screening of all the submissions - again a mix of crap and quality.

I think my favorite was their first year where they gave each crew a list of props and sayings that HAD to be in the film - something like:

- box of Mr. T cereal
- man in wheelchair and/or midget
- 40 oz of Old English
- "what's that smell?"

etc. very, very funny submissions that year.

is this a case of the film manufacturers trying to get their own back on the video industry & put us video editors out of a job! :D

Thats a cool idea, If I had an 8mm camera I would enter I if I lived in the UK. I wish we had something like that here in the US. Except maybe allow digital cameras, but no editing! Ah the possibilities.

I'm suprised there's not one in the U.S., the Aussies have one, that is pretty much the same...
