When i today tried to update my software, a problem came up.. After the program downloaded the file, a box came up, where it said ( i have a german version, so i try to translate): "The update could not been checked and extracted" - Check if you have permissions to write in /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate

But when i tried to go to the adress, it said "file doesnt exist"

Please help me and thx for your answers

You can safely remove /tmp/501/TemporaryItems.

sudo rm -rf /tmp/501/TemporaryItems

Then try using Software Updater again.

Yes, it seems that Xcode uninstalled also tar and gnutar from /usr/bin .
To aviod installing xcode again, i used Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to open the installer and to search for "tar & gnutar" manually.. After installing them, software update worked perfect again..

Apple should fix this problem soon

Cheers
