Hello all,
I have just released a Mobile Substrate addon that allows fullscreen, (presumably) full framerate TV output of (almost) any iPhone / iPod Touch application; with touch support.

Here is a video of it in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INz_aHP_BXE

It's available in Cydia now on the BigBoss repo.

I have set up a forum at
http://iphonetvoutlandscape.forumcircle.com/
to deal with any issues people may have with it.

It is based off ashikase's TVOut that he ceased work on.

Enjoy! And if you like what you get, please consider donating!

Any recommendations for a reliable cable for 3GS for TV out (especially one that doesn't give the accessory not supported warning).

Edit/Update: The only cable which seems to be guaranteed to work correctly is the genuine Apple Composite AV Cable MB129LL/B ($49)

Ouch, $50 for a cable?
Hope we see some aftermarket Chinese wires that are comparable and don't give the error message.

There are actually some "knock-offs" available in the $7-$15 range, but...

who knows if they will actually work as claimed ??

I have read lots of horror stories on web about non-functioning cables since 3.0 fw update.

Non-Apple (cheap) AV cables don't work with Firmware v.3+

Apple nobbled them, or rather: the Firmware v.3+ requires a responder chip to be present in the cable, and, guess what? it's only present in Apple's own cables (at the moment, anyway).

Spot on. I had one of the eBay el cheapo A/V dock cables working great with 2.x software. Never has worked since 3.x.

The circuitry and software signaling in any aftermarket cable for this requires a vendor to be in the 'Made for iPod' program, which is $100k (USD) just to sign up.

The only cable is the Apple cable.....

So I picked up the $50 Apple Composite cable to try out this thing.

Sorry, but I found the extension to be very hit or miss.

Works sometimes on an app, other times it won't work on same app.

And many apps would not display, others just displayed in portrait view but rotated 90% to the side.

Best results were with iPod app (I use this occasionally) and YouTube app (which I really never use).

Thanks !

Not sure if you're aware, but iPod and YouTube don't require jailbreaking or this app to be viewed via the composite cable...which would kinda explain it working well.

As for me I'm pretty happy with the results using Slingplayer (which does require the app to view). The audio and video seemed just slightly out of sync, and I had to have my target feed playing before plugging the cable...but quality wise it was *way* better than the options I'd tested before.

Yes, I am aware you can use the built in iPod settings for TV out, but thanks.

When I started an app or feed, then plugged cable in, it usually caused the app to crash. Glad it's working well for someone.

Looks like a lot of the discussion here was about what type of cable, so this update is very significant for users here...

v1.60-1 is out...
Change log:
Added work-around for non-genuine cables
Added preliminary support for on-screen touch marker
Application generated alerts / popups can be clicked
Changed touch screen offsets to match screen offsets and can be tweaked in Settings.

Btw, this was made for landscape apps (as the title suggests) as ashikase's TV Out already did portrait for people. I may add portrait mode / auto switching in the near future.

Installed the update.

Two subsequent springboard crashes to "Sad Mac" shortly thereafter (however I wasn't using the app nor did I have it enabled)

Removed app and so far all is well, no further crashes in past 8 hours.

Sorry, I haven't found the cause of this yet.

You seem to be struggling an awful lot with this app.
Very odd that you are, haven't had anyone crash with it.

Oh well, if the functionality wasn't what you were after, I guess you can go without and without the crashes

I am not struggling with it at all. When I installed the update, I had 2 quick crashes (say within the next hour) No other updates or changes had been made to my phone.

After removal, I have not had any repeats and it has been about 24-36 hours now.

Perhaps there is another app or extension I have installed which is conflicting.

Thanks !

For those that were having troubles with in-app videos (Sky Mobile, NBA League Pass, yxflash, etc), I have released a pretty good fix today.

v1.70-1 is out on Cydia now...

Changelog:

Integrated the "Sky Mobile (and other in-app video) Fix" for videos not playing; into main build. Now the fix includes touch support and scaling.

Reinstated Orb Player compatability (disable TV out in Settings is using Orb's built-in TV out)

Fixed a bug that prevented TV out from functioning without having *scrolled through* the whole settings page at least once (this initialized and stored default values)
