First Intel Arrandale (MacBook Pro) Processors Due January 3rd?

Fudzilla claims that Intel is planning on launching three Arrandale-based processors on January 3rd, 2010. These Arrandale processors are based on the advanced Nehalem architecture first introduced into desktop Macs earlier this year, and should represent a significant performance improvement over the Core 2 Duo processors that are currently found in Apple's MacBook Pros.

The three new processors will be branded under the "Core i5" and "Core i7" names and range from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz with prices ranging from $225 to $332 in quantities of 1000. While Fudzilla describes their TDP (thermal design power) of 35W as "not so attractive", it matches up with the current high-end processors used in the MacBook Pro. This means Apple could use these processors in a new MacBook Pro update.

These new mobile processors are said to eventually also come in low-voltage variants that will also make them suitable for ultra-thin notebooks such as the MacBook Air.

I'll but it. Give us no optical drive and two hdd bays or a thinner laptop and I'm sold. Maybe even dual GPUs in 13" with an upgraded GPU anyway

Since that value includes the GMCH, it's not far from the 25 W TDP of the regular MBP CPUs.

Can anyone tell me what this means for the Macbook Air? When will the Air-compatible processors be available? I just bought a Macbook Air last night... might be able to cancel?

This figures. I really need to buy a new 13" MBP before the end of the year. Maybe I'll shop on the 31st and hold out hope that the new models, if the 13" gets bumped, are available before my 14 days are up.

i'm hoping they give the option for 15" and don't reserve the quads for the highest end 17". in terms of pricing, will these replace the C2D and maintain the same price tag or will these be a more expensive upgrade option

They appear to be slated for Q3 2010 but I think the same report(s) said Q3 for the CPUs that Fudzilla says will come in January.

If they are indeed coming in Q3, then I'd expect an interim update for the Air that updates other components besides the CPU (4 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD). If earlier, then the next update would probably be Arrandale.

It's amazing how efficient these new processors run. What's next? Maybe an 800MHz 6 core mobile chip in 2012?
