My goodness, everywhere I look on the internet there are free mini ipod offers. I am starting to get sick of them. I know it doesn't really matter that much, but companys need to try a different marketing perspective. I think they are all using the same thing.

Half of the people are giving away a popular product, and the other half are scamming you with the chance at a popular product.

But the "Do Not Call List" for telemarketers has the "contact" loophole that allows people to get around the Do Not Call List.

Sign up for an iPod contest, and you will be placing your ass on a "Please Call Me List" -- these companies will market their phone room services to a variety of companies to "allow" them access to the sucker list they put together.

Invariably you'll eventually find more and more telemarketing companies running contests themselves, because the commission and access fees they get to their phone list will offset the costs of the contest.

So yes 10 free iPods will probably pay for themselves real quick.

I find the "get a free iPod" Google ad at the bottom of this page ironic, considering the topic of this thread. :D

yes, isn't google ad technology wonderful? If your post said "I hate xxx and would never buy xxx", guess what type of ad you'd get? Right, an ad for xxx. Unless they were really clever and knew what antidote or uninstaller or removal cream worked on xxx! :D

I think the announcement on the forums is sufficient enough for a "Do not use MacRumors for the ********* thing" warning. A step beyond that would be screening every post manually before letting them show up in the forums to see if the content is supporting the scam, but that's too far.

I think he's trying to trick Google into offering some porn links in the ad bar.

Of course we can't forget the possibility of subliminal messages hidden inside the Free iPod offers.

Actually, I was going to make up a silly product name like "Biodegradable maple-flavored metric widgets" to make my point, but I decided to use a non-name instead. I was thinking like a mathematician (unknowns are named x) and forgetting the connotation for movie ratings. D'oh!

A likely explanation, perv ;)

There goes my good citizen reputation, in one swell foop, unless I bribe you guys to keep quiet about this. Where do you want your Power Mac G5s and 30" Cinema HD displays sent? ;)

Suuuuuure... just like the connotation to the subscript of the third partial derivative of a function with respect to x is donated by "xxx." :D

Alas, it doesn't seem to be working... still nothing but iPod ads at the bottom. (edit) Wait, it's changed to iBooks! Why?

I'm guessing that you saw some text in which its color is different from the color of the background.

Or it could be one of those profile messages that link back to some Xanga blog...you don't see too many LiveJournal blog links in profiles nowadays. You'll probably see less of those if iChat goes Mac and PC like iTunes did.
