Hi all...I have been unable to use FTP with the firewall in Panther (dreamweaver MX FTP). I have enabled passive FTP in the proxies tab under network, but I still have to turn off the firewall whenever I want to send or retrieve files. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but this has me puzzled.

Thanks....

Perhaps you should try PORT connection instead of passive.

are you trying to connect to a machine running panther or from a machine running panther?

your firewall settings shouldn't make any difference if you are connecting from a panther machine. double check that the address and password are correct, then check to make sure the host is using a standard port. perhaps the host only allows SFTP?

firewall settings, no. but ftp settings: yes. if you're behind a firewall, you need to enable passive ftp; it has to do with how your firewall allows/disallows incoming traffic on certain ports. Bhennies, have you changed your Dreamweaver site prefs to use passive ftp? from your post, it sounds like you've only changed your Network settings under System Prefs. you probably don't need to do that if you're not actually using any proxies, so you might want to restore them to default before trying this:

in Dreamweaver, under the "Site->Edit Sites..." dialog, call up your site and open the Advanced tab. under Remote Info, make sure Use Passive FTP is checked. let us know if that works for you...

I forgot that I did a reinstall of Panther and all my programs, and forgot to enable passive FTP in Dreamweaver.
