My local Mediamarkt (in Germany) has them on offer and I was gonna buy my girlfriend one to back up her photo collection. But the sales assistant told me they are not compatible with Macs.

Given that Mediamarkt staff are renowned for being clueless, I was hoping somebody could elaborate on potential compatibility issues? The box does state FOR PC on the front, and only lists Windows OS in the system requirements but the Seagate website contradicts this and says Mac OSX 4.8 upwards will work.

Help!

It will work on your Mac. The only possible problem is if it is a Firewire drive and your Mac doesn't have Firewire, but if it says it is PC compatible, it is almost certainly USB.

It is indeed. Did some further digging and managed to find out that it just needs reformatting, that's all. So will go buy one tomorrow.
