iOS Transmitting Image Over Network From a Java Server Application

I am currently looking for a way to transfer a Java BufferedImage from a Java server console application over a local network to an iPhone, where I can display the image on the screen. I have already managed to implement and send text and data(numbers) over the network reliably, but I have no clue how to send files, or more specifically images. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
