Ta. It's called Ruby Fade. It's a 2003 Pearl Export Select kit, just incase they don't do these colours anymore, I haven't kept in the drum equipment loop for a while... :)

I'm not sure if they still manufacture the kit with that stain. I have not seen it around. Regardless, it looks awesome.

After some digging, I found out the finish is still available under the 'VBX Vision Birch' line.

I was stunned to find out the Export lines had been discontinued. Looks like I'm almost two years out of the times though, apparently it was discontinued in January 2008... *Sniffle*

This thread just reminded me that I need to get a new kit. It would've cost too much to ship it back home from Spain so I've left it over there with a friend.

Here's my kit from a recording session back in January of this year:

Pacific CX Maple kit with Zildjian K/K Custom cymbals and DW flat base hardware (love that stuff for transport).

All of the microphones (Shure, Audio Technica, Schoeps, Blue) are also mine as I work as a producer/engineer and usually convince my clients to let me play drums on their records :)

I'll post pics of my kit once I set it back up (construction at the house), but I do have a question. I've always wondered why people replace the floor tom with the lower rack tom, is there a specific reason?

I've always wondered why people replace the floor tom with the lower rack tom, is there a specific reason?

Sometimes the feel of moving from a rack tom to a rack mounted floor tom feels more consistent. I used to have my 14" tom mounted on an L-rod mount on a cymbal stand, but I prefer the more solid feel of a floor tom with legs. So I converted my 14" rack tom to a floor using a floating floor tom system.

My "Rock n' Roll room" doubles as a toy room now-a-days. So goes it with parenthood sometimes.

Tama Starclassic - 22, 10, 12, 14, (16 not shown), and a 13 maple piccolo.

I'm a drummer, but my kit currently isn't set up, and most of my cymbals are cracked. I have a Mapex M Birch in blue to black fade. Need about $1500 to fix it up all nice (including cymbals) to start playing again. :(

I never thought of using pics. You guys and gals have some really amazing setups.

My ex-wife who played drums, while I played guitar, and she used a very old 6 piece maple Rodgers set with a full range of vintage Zildjians (1950s or 1960s era) for the practice studio set, and an inexpensive 5 piece MX 100 set (made by Pearl I think) with vintage Zildjian hi-hats, vintage Zildjian crash, an unknown crash made in Germany which may have been old, and a new Pearl hammered ride.

Later on when I took up drums, I just used a similar MX-1000 with some inexpensive Pearl cymbals. I don't remember if I got the inexpesive Zildjian Advedis set of crash/ride/hi-hat or parts of that set, but I always wanted the slightly more intermediate Sabian set of cymbals.

If money was no object, I would get the Yamaha set the OP has, but maybe 3 piece but with a ton of cymbals. :)

Great rig man. What's with the holes in the snare? Did it come that way or is a customization? What does it do to the sound?

Hey thanks! Yup it did come that way, it's a "vented" snare drum, it results in a very loud, pretty bright, and very sensitive drum, it definitely takes some getting use to if your used to playing on a normal snare drum. I play in a hardcore/metalcore band and it cuts through all the guitars like a champ, even un mic'd. Jazz is another story though.... lol :(

Sadly mine is sitting in a stack. I am in the middle of converting it to an e-drum set with a 32 input Megadrum unit. I have the Megadrum sitting on a rack, unused :(
