How do I de-install MobileMe?

I signed up for the free trial of MobileMe but I never used it so I cancelled when the option came up.

Since that time every time I turn my iPod Touch on it tells me it can't connect to MobileMe. duh I've removed the app from the iPod but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I've attempted to remove it from my computer hard disk but I haven't been able to get it to the trash.

Any ideas how to get rid of it and its annoyance?
