Who all here is a fan of electronic music, all genres: big beat, breaksbeat, house, drum and bass, techno etc and who are your favourite groups/producers/dj's.
I'll start:
My fav band of all time is The chemical Brothers, I also listen to alot of Massive Attack and Portishead. Looking for more trip Hop styles stuff like Massive Attack, been meaning to check out Thievery Corporation.
In terms of techno I listen to Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin, Luke Slater, Adam Beyer and Carl Cox.
In terms of house, I listen to Dj Dan, Hatiras (his old stuff), Sebestian Leger, Daft Punk (their old stuff, and Thomas Bangalter products), Antoine Clamaran, Deep Dish, John Digweed and a bunch of others.
I also really like Amon Tobin.

i dont really label music by genre so this is what i like that would loosely be considered 'electronic' by most (iTunes links - some are limited in selection but what the hey)
Underworld (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=5634127) <-- i assume you know them-probbly the only 'trip-hop' in my list here
Tomandandy (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=3625580&selectedItemId=3625575)

UNKLE is good too, i wanna hear more from them. I almost forgot to mention Dj Shadow, hes really good too.
I'll have to check out some of the other artists.

Yeah, electro is my home. Grew up listening to Kraftwerk, progressed into the darker stuff. Nostalgia graciously provided by Welle: Erdball (http://welle-e.de/).
Best band in the known universe: Skinny Puppy (http://www.skinnypuppy.com/), with all offshoots (Download, PlatEAU, cEvin's solo stuff (http://www.subconsciousstudios.com) and the ohGr (http://www.ohgr.org) project) coming a close second. Industrial has come a long way - something a bit different try the newest Killing Joke (http://www.killingjoke.com/) album. Industrial without the synths, man.
EBM is awesome, check out Imperative Reaction (http://www.imperativereaction.net/)'s latest album for a killer dancefloor set, it towers above the rest of the subgenre, which is usually killed by the suckiness and relative popularity of VNV Nation and A23. Ugh.
Noise, this is highly underrated; Sonar (http://www.ant-zen.com/), Noisex (http://www.noisex.net/index_fullscreen.htm[/url) and especially Tarmvred (http://www.tarmvred.net) and Winterkaelte go places other sounds fear ;) A good introduction is the 'Blast furnace' album by Converter (http://www.ant-zen.com/converter/).
Drum and bass (and noise) splits itself out a little in the form of Panacea and Needle Sharing (http://www.adnoiseam.net), I'm also a big fan of that bloke Roni Size.
P.S. - MINISTRY (http://www.ministrymusic.org/news/) lost their way, but are still way cool.

P.S. - MINISTRY (http://www.ministrymusic.org/news/) lost their way, but are still way cool.
Heh heh... I haven't listened to Ministry in a long time (not since Filth Pig), but The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and The Land of Rape and Honey are classics. I was feeling nostalgic after reading this and threw The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste on my stereo (would you believe it's on a cassette!).
Anyway, nowadays I listen to lots of ambient and experimental stuff, (as far as electronic music is concerned).
I recently picked up an album by a now defunct (as far as I can tell) group called Ohm, the album's called Voices, and you can find a couple of their tracks for free download if you search through the reckage of audiogalaxy.
Other than that:
Scanner (probably my favourite)
stuff produced by Bill Laswell (which has a pretty broad range)
mid-late 90s stuff put out on Instinct Ambient (great ambient)
Probably the closest thing to Ministry that I still listen to is Techno Animal.
For Drum and Bass, I just picked up a disc mixed by J Majik (Fabriclive 13), and it's pretty good.

I haven't heard of 9/10ths of these names before, and don't know the genres, but why does no other "trip-hop" group sound like Portishead? Seriously, I love Portishead, but every time I check out something that's supposed to be "trip-hop", whatever that is, I end up greatly disappointed.
And Thievery Corp is okay.

Aug 8, 2004, 07:27 PM
Yeah I really like portishead as well, their Live In New York DVD/CD was awesome. I love Strangers when the orchestra kicks in for the big finalle. I am definately interested in finding some similar artists.
To me its the same with The Chemical Brothers. I love their music, but it seems like any of the other "alternatives" to them are no where near their level. For example: Crystal Method (IMO their last two albums were trash)
I guess thus far the only other "trip-hop" if you even want to consider them that I listen to is Massive Attack, theya re also awesome. I am definately going to check out that Thievery Corporation album that Hoef mentioned.
I haven't heard alot of the names mentioned either, more names to check out :D

Cool how prefuse 73 is blowing up eh? nice spots in Wired with these last two albums. :) ... im going to see Prefuse 73 and autechre in Seattle soon. :D
i've always been a Warp records fan(like the iTunes music store? ... try bleep.com). i never listen to enough Ninja Tune stuff. NIN has been a big electronic/rock enfluence (along with the usual suspects ... SP/Download, Ministry, 808, etc). Orbital and Underworld are classic. Portishead are getting back together ... that's gotta mean something.
Lately i've been into a lot of hip-hip ... Def. Jux has been really melding well with the Warp artists and Quanamm projects are always dope.
... and of course i listen to my own stuff as well. ;)

I love Kraftwerk! And on that note, I also really enjoyed the debut album of Komputer which was a total ripoff of the early 80's Kraftwerk sound but was really done quite well with 90's recording tools.
I can't believe no one's mentioned Cosmicity (www.cosmicity.com), one of the most consistent and long-running American synthpop artists of the 90's and 21st century.
But my all time favorite electronic music group is Seven Red Seven who, sadly, broke up during recording of their third album circa 1997. Their first 2 were possibly the best-produced American synthpop albums ever.
EDIT: Oh and by the way, Cosmicity (Mark Nicholas) is a Mac user. So Mark, if you happen to be looking in here, I'm really looking forward to your next release!

Aphex Twin - just awesome
Prodigy - the Narcodic Suite still blows my mind
Future Sound of London - amazing band that is hard to find stuff in the US... come on ITMS
God Lives Underwater - one of the awesomest bands ever
Chemical Brothers - on the fense about the new album but i've hardly heard it
Crystal Method - on the fense about the new album as well
Daft Punk - awesome
BT - i like the earlier stuff better
Dirty Vegas - the new album is really good and the first album is awesome
Basement Jaxx - some of there stuff is just too far out there but Kish Kash is constantly listened to
Sneaker Pimps - first album only
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile is awesome and With Teeth is so out there... but really good
Mark Farina - i got started with Mushroom Jazz, but i really enjoy everything i've heard by him so far
Plus:
anyone listen to bluemars.org (http://www.bluemars.org)? i love listening to it in the evening or when i need to just relax

Not sure if this totally fits, and one has to go back several decades, but there was a guy in the 70s named Giorgio Moroder who is considered the father of "computer disco."
I stumbled upon his gem "Chase" in iTMS and haven't looked back. It was one of the songs from Oliver Stone's Midnight Express.

There are quite a few Kraftwerk fans on this here forum. It's just been discussed before ;)
I can't believe no one's mentioned Cosmicity (www.cosmicity.com), one of the most consistent and long-running American synthpop artists of the 90's and 21st century.Cosmicity is great in short bursts, but I find the consistency tends to become familiar, then tedious reasonably quickly. Quick solution: one album at a time. 'Pure' is great, and some of the remixes from 'Escape pod for two' are awesome.
Still can't touch the majestic Iris (http://www.irismusic.com), though.

I'm currently doing some serious research into Acid House, the single most exciting musical advance in my lifetime. While so much of it has aged diabolically - note "Acid Trax" by Phuture, the first Acid track - stuff like "Pacific" by 808 State and "Voodoo Ray" by A Guy Called Gerald are timeless classics.
I'm getting more interested into the roots of the music I've loved all my life - that of lush electronica, verging towards ambient, but also that of precise electronic beat based music.
Groups/artists that rule:
Kraftwerk
Underworld
New Order fused electronica and "normal music" perfectly
Orbital
Chicane
Aphex Twin
808 State
And songs I'd recommend to anyone with even the slightest tendency towards liking electronic music:
Orbital's Belfast and Chime
Underworld's Two Months Off, Tin There (edit), Jumbo, Juanita : Kiteless : To Dream of Love
Kraftwerk - Radioactivity (The Mix) Tour de France, Tour de France Etape 2
Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits, Playtime (John McEntire Remix)
808 State - Pacific 707, In Yer Face
Blank & Jones - Counting Clouds [This track is utterly sublime]
Those are a few of my favourite tracks. I defy anyone who doesn't like electonic music not to be compelled by certain tracks in that list, notably Belfast, Counting Clouds, Les Nuits, and Juanita : Kiteless : To Dream of Love.
Electronic music is great.

I saw Digweed spin at Ice in Vegas back in January when I was there for the CES - amazing set. I love Sasha as well, saw him at Twilo once years and years ago in NYC. PvD was also great to see live, and there are a million other DJs I love to listen to - it's just depends on my mood. Richie Hawtin, Tidy Boys, Carl Cox, Above & Beyond, LTJ Bukem, Tiesto, the list goes on and on...
I also record the BBC Radio One Essential Mixes on a weekly basis and have all of them (with the exception of about 6) since 1993. That's well over 600 mixes and, in MP3 format, 170 GB of music. I defy anyone to have a larger EM collection than I do.

The V Snares is Hungarian, probably my favorite also.
I also agree with your picks, However, *bows head sheepishly*, I'm unfamiliar with Hybrid and Metamatics, I'll check them out...
thanks for the list.
I'll post my list when I have some time...

Does Industrial count as Electronic, it's a mix of Metal and Techno:confused:

Sure it does, why not? ;) :D I think Electronic is a generic enough category than many genres fall into it - trance, house, hard house, techno, garage, speed garage, drum & bass, downtempo, ambient, prog, hard trance, happy hardcore, electro, trip hop, industrial - those are just off the top of my head - but you name it! :D

Although i never have heard of most of these bands/acts/artist I am amazed that noone has mentioned IMO any really good ones... i have head of Tiesto... Paul van Dyke... Daft Punk... but i find their music too lame, kinda cheezy in their own sense. It could be the fact that I'm more into harder, faster, more out there kinds of electronic music. For me, psychedelic trance is the only electronic music that will get me going and wont let me go until i have had a good long listen. It absorbs me into the beats, sounds, riffs, everything. In no particular order, these are the bands that will get it going for me, i find them all really really good and deserve a chance if your looking for something fast adn psychedelic.
G.M.S.
Infected Mushroom
Dark Soho
Ananda Shake
PsySex
1200 Mics
Alien Project
Astral Projection
Atmos
Halucinogen
Talamasca
Safi Connection
and many more....

Have a look at Gomma (http://www.gomma.de/content.html) (choose What's Going On ->Mixtapes,videos & a game ->Mixtapes.
Some really good electro stuff in there, and free and fast downloads too.
And Beats in Space (http://www.beatsinspace.net/main.html) which is an NYC radio show, so more like a podcast but you can trim them down a bit.
Free music is always good :)

I'm a huge fan.
I pretty much have everything they've done.
there's one or two early records I don't have.
But I won't be going to see them this year.

lol :) 'Breathe', 'Stigmata', and 'Jesus...' probably my fav's. I used to have a ball python that was 'Pavlov's snake'. I would blast Breathe when I would feed him, <*insert laugh track*>, well, I noticed once, when it wasn't feeding time, I forgot, and he came out of his cave looking for food, quite funny...
