im looking at getting a new hard drive for my quicksilver G4 so i need an SATA PCI card. want the cheapest solution that works in OS X (running 10.4.9) and offers RAID

it seems the Highpoint RocketRAID 1520 is my best best

is there anything cheaper that will work? im looking to spend less than 30 bucks if possible

I don't think I've seen bootable SATA PCI cards for Macs less than at least double/triple what you'd expect to find one for. And one to support RAID too... I'm sure this is going to be expensive even for used items :)

I could be wrong though.....

Good luck though! Be sure to let us know which one you get.

According to comments on this site: http://www.pricespider.com/Other/HP-RocketRAID-1520/RocketRAID-1520-p297815.html 1520 is not bootable in Macs.
I got this card in G4: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ACARD/AEC6890M/ and it's one of cheapest i ever seen. I bought mine on sale for 80$. New for 30$ IMO is not possible. Maybe you try to look on eBay for used one?
