Microphone Volumes?!?!

I have purchased a Sony F-V620 Microphone and am connecting it to the PC throught the Line-In analog connector on the back of my G5. Problem is that I am getting almost no volume even though I have turned the input volume in system preferences all the way up....

do I need a pre-amp for this mic? What else can I try?

Microphones do not use line-level signals. Either get a USB microphone input, or get a microphone preamp.
