Hello. I have been using my IPT 64GB for over a month. I have two questions:
1. While playing music, I pressed the power button. The screen was turned
off but the music continued to play. Why pressing the power button did
not turn off the IPT entirely?
2. Why there is no remote controller (from 3rd parties) that can turn on
and off the IPT? As far as I concern, this is a very useful feature.
Thanks.

You have to hold down the power button to turn the iPod off.

As already said, press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds. A red slider should appear that will allow you to shut the device down.
There isn't really much point in doing this because the device takes about 30 seconds to boot up again when you want to use it. So don't bother unless you don't plan on using the iPod for an extended period of time.
Do you mean a wireless remote? That'll have to go through WiFi or Bluetooth, which means that the iPod will have to have one of these on all the time to be able to receive the signal... doesn't sound very useful to me. :O
And one with a wire... just press the power button on the iPod. And I'm sure that the new 32G and 64G models come with some sort of vague controls on the earphones.

I used to power it down at night, but I found out it didn't make any real difference in battery life, so I just leave it in sleep most of the time.

I recommend a power down after installing new apps. Seems to keep the device in shape.
