I've always used treble booster on all of my iPods, dating back from my 1st gen mini through my 1st gen touch and now on my 5th gen nanos and 7th gen classic.

Just for kicks I just tried turning it off on the classic, and man did it sound terrible and muffled--not clear at all.

What setting do you use?

I use flat, neutral, 0, whatever you want to call it for all my listening on ipods. On my apple tv & Marantz home stereo I use Pure Direct, in my car on my Eclipse the loudness is off.

This is using apple lossless ;)

Depends what I'm listening with, and to. If I'm listening on a pair of crappy earbuds I'll boost the base as much as possible, maybe use the Dance setting. If I'm listening on good speakers maybe rock or treble... depends.
