I7 imac vs G5 dual tower- real world speed test

I did a speed test to compare my G5 dual 1.8 tower to my new I7.

Final Cut Express 4 export to quicktime conversion. Approx 1 minute HD vid, best quality 502 x 282, h264.

G5 1.8 dual tower (3 gb ram): 13 minutes, 30 seconds. (810 seconds)
I7 (8gb ram) 1 minute, 20 seconds. (80 seconds)

10X faster; nice!

Christ, can't wait to upgrade my MBP once USB3 and CPUs are updated. The new i5s/i7s sound awesome.

think he meant thats what he export it to? HD -> 502x282

I thought OP meant they were exporting HD footage, and it was just being downscaled because they used the "current" settings (which matched the size to the viewer window) when exporting.

Regardless, a 10x increase in exporting time is pretty immense either way.
