I read about the brand new Wake on Wireless feature

I've got an 07-2007 Macbook Pro and a 11-2009 Mac Mini.

I want to wake up the Mac Mini, which has the Wake on Wireless ability.
I'd like to wake it up with my 2007 Macbook Pro.

My question is about this part:
"The second feature requires that you pair your recent-vintage Airport with a recent Mac model (all 2009 versions, and possibly some 2008 models as well): you can wake the machine over Wi-Fi, rather than just over Ethernet."

Why do I need new hardware for the machine which triggers the Mac Mini?
I can understand to need some software update, but not new hardware to just pair with a machine which I need to wake up (Mac Mini).

Thanks!
Blurg.

Well if you use a third party router make sure you bookmark the page "Well known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629?viewlocale=en_US) and use this page to open ports for what you want.

The thing is, how can I wake up the Mac Mini, without having a 'new' Mac (2008/2009)

I am using an Apple Airport Extreme Access Point.
