DVD-RW in original 15" aluminum powerbook?

I have a 1.25 ghz 15" powerbook (the first fw800 edition) and I was curious if my superdrive can burn DVD-RW? Is this drive even different then the ones in the new powerbooks but with different firmware? What do you guys think?

My 1.25 15 inch can burn, but I used a firmware hack to allow -/+ disks, and I think RW format.

I found a thread with the link to the updater at the Doom9 webpages. I don't have it bookmarked here, so I cannot provide it right now. I use Toast to burn.
