iPod Engraved iPod nano? How to check on the box

Hi my friends at MacRumors! Is there a way to see if an iPod nano is engraved without opening the box? I can get one from a friend who got it as a gift from his employer but already has an iPod. Does Apple seal engraved iPods? He says his iPod is sealed.
