View Full Version : Failed consolidation has left a mess of a library - how to tidy up?

Having a 'mare with the iTunes library. Under iTunes 9 there's the new folder structure, so after getting things working, I decided to consolidate the library which would copy everything in to that directory, update the library and job done. Except it ran out of disk space midway through the copy, even though there's more than enough disk space left which makes me think there's a rogue file reporting a massive file size. Have repaired permissions and that looks fine.

So now I'm left with an iTunes library split across two different directory structures with numerous duplicate items on the disk, some missing from the iTunes library and because of the random way it copies files, no quick way to see what's missing to be re-copied over. I thought it would do it by media type, then alphabetically, but it appears to be a real scattergun approach.

Is there any way to consolidate library by folder? I don't want to kick the whole thing off again in case it fails, but if I just add the movies folder to the library for example, it doesn't copy the files to the media folder, even though that option is ticked.

Any ideas on how to get the mess tidied up?

Thanks.

I used a program called Beatunes (perhaps Beattunes) to add BPM to my songs. I remember seeing other options to "analyze" the library for duplicates and whatnot. I would take a look at their site and see if it can provide some help, even if it's not a complete solution it might be a start.
I know there are other programs that do similar things, but I cannot remember their names.
