What games do you people play that aren't on the computer/console? Point the MacRumors squad to some games that we might not have heard of before!

Some games that I'm rather fond of at the moment are:

Killer Bunnies (http://www.killerbunnies.com) - Great fun for a good number of people. It's semi-random who wins so some might not like it. You try to get the magic carrot (randomly picked before the game starts). Once all the carrots have been gotten by the players the "magic" carrot is revealed and the player having that carrot wins! So having the most carrots at the end doesn't guarantee you a win, just better odds. Plus the artwork and cards are great.

Steve Jackson Games (http://www.sjgames.com) - I just started playing Munchkin and it's quite fun, especially if you've played D&D before. There are a few other games from this company I want to try in the future but I need to get through all the games I bought from this next company first!

Cheap Ass Games (http://www.cheapass.com) - Super cheap and yet very fun, unique games. Browse the selection to see what's what. They also tend to send you other games with your order for free which is nice of them. I would highly recommend the $25 bits package if you don't already have the stuff sitting around the house and if you get a lot of their games. They have free games too with my favorite probably being Nothing Beats Rock (http://www.cheapass.com/free/games/rock.html).

Any other games (or game companies) that people recommend?

I've wanted to play that killer bunny game, maybe i'll pick it up the next time i'm at a gaming store.

i'm big into monopoly, *drinking* monopoly, tho usually everyone just winds up getting drunk in the first 15 minutes and getting naked. Funny how that works.

Card games, i do most casino games, strip poker, etc. Blackjack is "my" game.

The most important thing to remember is, any game can be a drinking (or stripping) game if you have the right crowd...

Try eBay if you want to get it. I got it plus all the expansions (normally $80 something) for $40 plus $13 shipping... although I could understand not wanting to invest that much having never played it...

recently, it has been a card game called hand and foot. But Scrabble and Monopoly (Star Wars Edition :D) are always popular. I would love to play more risk, but I lack similarly minded people.

Settlers of Cattan (http://www.coolgames.com/mfg-cat/soc/0483-00.htm)

Seriously one of the most awesome games ever, its pricey but well worth it. A java version (http://settlers.cs.northwestern.edu/) is available online, but its not the same as playing it live.

And I already thought I have to be the one to say that (though it's Catan, not Cattan). It's a great game IMO, so I second that.

Edit: I followed your link and neither saw the "Städte und Ritter" (Towns and Knights) nor the "Seefahrer" (Seafarer?) expansion. I think especially "Städte und Ritter" makes the game twice as good. Don't they exist in the US?

Settlers is my personal favorite boardgame ever. One of the best things about it is that you need a different strategy everytime you play, since the board layout is random.

As for the expansions, yes, we have them in the US. The Cities and Knights is definitely awesome, it adds a lot more strategy to the mix. :D

same problem here. miss living in the fraternity, and playing hours of risk. regular risk with heavy drinking on the side. not *all* fraternity things are parties, alcohol and naked women, though we do try to make sure one or another is in there.

Cranium (http://www.cranium.com/cranium_games/cranium/index.htm) cheesy but fun

cribbage (http://www.pagat.com/adders/crib6.html) one awesome card game.

there's a good old fashioned game that harpo marx and alexander woolcot used to play with other famous hipsters of the depression era; a simple murder mystery game where you start your evening with cocktails, and everyone draws a card, all of which are blank save one which says "murderer". you then go about your evening eating, conversing (these were the days before tv and radio, mind you) and at some point, the murderer "kills" someone by telling them they are dead. the stiff has to remain motionless until they are discovered, and by examining who was where, when, and with whom (much like an interactive version of clue) the remaining live people have to figure out who the murderer was. i don't know if we have estates vast enough to make this game as much fun as marx made it sound in his autobiography, but god willing, one day we'll all get a shot.

"assassins" is also fun. something we did when we were doing summer stock theatre. everyone puts their name in a bowl. mix it up, then everyone draws one name. that name is your target, and the objective is to a) "kill" your target w/ a water gun and b) survive until the next redraw (usually when 50% of the players are killed. You then redraw names and keep doing it until you're left with three people. then you have a winner. we had one girl, a techie, who hid in her target's bushes for 12 hours. she got her mark. this game runs it's course in about two weeks.

Scrabble, except with my Mom 'cause she kicks my ass. :)
I end up playing Cranium more than I'd like....I'm very bad at all the pop-culture/entertainment questions.
I like Munchkin, Guillotine, Illuminati, Cheap-Ass games, and other such card-based things.
And for a good, up-to-your-hips-in-the-undead kinda time, nothing beats Zombies!

(I'm going to leave out roleplaying stuff here....different category, I think.)

Billiards!!

All right, so we have this pretty boring 3.5 by 7 upstairs. I want one of those button racks, because the morphed black plastic things we have now don't work right.

Monopoly, Rummi 500, and sometimes Skippo, though a little long. Checkers is all right, I'm tough in that game. Othello is one that interests me quite a bit, and I'm usually tough to beat in that too.

I hate Scrabble and almost all word-related games, because I come in last, or 2nd to last, almost every time I play.

Chess, Risk, Gin Rummy + Variations, Romanian Whist (Like Oh Hell) (http://www.pagat.com/whist/whist.html) , Blackjack, Some Magic (not much anymore, haven't bought cards in like 4 years), Monopoly (the absolute best game to play from (9:00 at night to 4:00 in the morning, no breaks!). I also enjoy Scrabble, Probe, Checkers, Dominoes, Battleships, and a lot of other games out there. I'm somewhat of a board game junkie / card shark. :) As well as Football or Soccer or whatever, Tennis, Rock Climbing and Golf (golf golf golf golf golf....golf.............GOLF!!!!!)Romanian Whist (Like Oh Hell) (http://www.pagat.com/whist/whist.html)

Cards:

Texas Hold-em, hands down.
Gambling or just chips, it doesn't matter.

Non-poker related, Egyptian Ratscrew is a good 2nd.

In terms of board games, Cranium is jsut tons of fun (but especially with friends). Like someone else said, it is kind of cheesy, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun to play.

$10...but I have to hold off playing for a while.

The $500 price tag on my fall semester books is gonna hit me like a ton of bricks. Um, moratorium on Hold-em for several weeks lol.
